GCI's Secuity Content Strategist is responsible for taking security awareness strategy and applying across various channels and tactics. Position will design and execute integrated communication and engagement plans by assessing organizational risk and industry trends. Using an understanding of cybersecurity needs in today’s business environment, this role will engage with all levels of GCI to ensure security is embedded within our culture.

The success of this role and program will enable the business to operate securely, protect its people, defend its assets and preserve shareholder value.

Essential Duties:

This position requires an ability to translate highly technical and industry specific concepts and terminology into consumable content for all levels of the organization. Utilizes both creativity and data-driven insights to optimize content and improve engagement. Measures and assesses impact, ensuring that the mission, goals and KPIs for the Enterprise Security Office are met through the following dutes:

  • Creates relevant security content, interactions, and engagements for GCI. Develops, writes, and transforms ideas into persuasive messaging through various content types including emails, print collateral, website content, social media, blogs, white papers, press releases, brochures, publications, product descriptions, advertisements, videos, recordings and other forms of medium. Copyedits all content created by self and other members of the team for spelling, grammar, and consistency, paying close attention to detail to ensure accuracy, language, and brand consistency of all messaging.
  • Design internal phishing campaigns based on real-world events and cyber incident research. Working with Threat Intel and Security Operations teams, help develop strategized content to reduce risk across GCI. Collaborates with other departments and project teams to design innovative content ideas. Stays on top of cybersecurity trends and related information.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must maintain working knowledge of current events and security trends.
  • Write and post content to the company and department’s website including, but not limited to, awareness training, security information, links, video and polls.
  • Design Phishing templates and campaigns based on industry trends and real-world events.
  • Conceptualize and design graphics and/or short videos to accompany written content.
  • Edit content to ensure proper grammar, spelling and style for varied platforms.
  • Maintain the brand and tone of the ESO.
  • Responsible for accuracy and context in all produced content.
  • Prioritize, organize and in accordance with the goals and guidelines as directed.
  • Comfortable translating technical information into consumable and educational content of varied formats.
  • Familiar with using use social media outlets for promotion and public engagement.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and must be willing to take the initiative on issues affecting the organization.
  • Must have attention to detail and a reputation for meeting deadlines.
  • Capable of light interviewing subjects in a professional manner.
  • Basic understanding of graphic design and related elements.
  • Understanding and ability to generate content that is found in online searches and incorporates SEO best practices and guidelines.

Technical:

  • Knowledge of MS Office and other common office tools/software required.
  • Familiarity with editing software (such as Adobe products) or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to understand and quickly apply new technology

People Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and the public.
  • Excellent active listening skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical teams required. Proven ability to collaborate within and outside assigned department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of writing and/or editing experience.
  • Educational, professional, technical or creative endeavors accepted with samples of work.
  • Marketing and social media experience also accepted.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree or appropriate certifications in security, communications, or arts required.
  • Or, a combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis.

Certifications: Industry specific certifications are highly valued and can contribute toward education.

Because GCI is a federal contractor subject to Executive Order 14042, GCI employees may be required in the future to be fully vaccinated* against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Physical Requirements: Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Clarity of vision to see near, mid-range, and color. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions: The work area must be quiet and free of distractions. Lighting must be adequate and without glare. Distracting noises should be kept to a minimum. The employee’s desk must be adequate, designed to safely accommodate the equipment the employee must use, e.g., computer, printer, keyboard, monitor, etc. The employee must have reliable connectivity to the internet to access GCI via VPN. Employee workstation must comply with GCI’s ergonomic standards.

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.

Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
