Position Description

The Security Guard Coordinator is a full-time Civil Service Position with the Nashville Public Library. This position supervises, organizes, and participates in providing security and maintaining order. This position patrols assigned areas to protect occupants, visitors, public property, buildings and related facilities, etc. Performs other duties as required.

Located in the heart of Music City, The Nashville Public Library boasts 4 million visits annually and maintains a collection of 2 million items, including a one-of-its kind civil rights collection. The Metro Archives, a premier division of the Public Library, is the official record keeper of Nashville's history, maintaining records of enduring historical value. Nashville Public Library is central to the city's art, history, education and literary culture, earning it the title of Gale-Cengage and the Library Journal's 2017 Library of the Year. The library periodically hosts best-selling authors, and during the summer months offers free lunchtime concerts in a beautifully manicured courtyard featuring everything from salsa to soul, to blues to Bach. Typical Duties

  • Supervises, trains, coordinates and assigns duties to security officers.
  • Evaluates security officers’ performance.
  • Counsels with and corrects security officers as needed.
  • Develops shift schedules for security officers.
  • Maintains records concerning attendance and job assignment.
  • Writes reports as needed and keeps accurate records.
  • Ensures all officers are on their scheduled assignment.
  • Maintains security and order in Nashville Public Library governed areas.
  • May monitor and operate various security devices/systems.
  • May supervise security contract workers in the Nashville Public Library.
  • Gives directions and provides other information to employees and the public.
  • Calls for police assistance as required.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION &EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university, and three (3) years experience in the criminal justice system, security or related field experience.
OR
High School Diploma and five (5) years increasingly responsible experience with the criminal justice system, security or related field experience.

LICENSE REQUIRED:
Valid Driver's License

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.


Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Supervisory experience in a security or criminal justice environment
  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Experience in conducting investigations
  • Fluent bilingual language skills
