Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies depending on department needs, 12 hours per week

Pay Range: Starting hourly/ annual pay at $15.00 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Pay Grade: 50.50

Benefits Category: Partial benefits

Position Summary: Maintain The Children’s Garden, serving as link to children’s classroom, Center kitchen, and families.

Required Qualifications: Skilled in gardening
Experience with word processing and general computer use
Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications: 30 college credit hours
Coursework in horticultural science, sustainable agriculture, hospitality management and/or early childhood education
Experience with young children in group settings

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • MAINTAIN THE CHILDREN'S GARDEN -Planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting is completed in a timely manner. Planting and use of produce is coordinated with the Kitchen Supervisor. Assistance is given to the kitchen in preparing the garden produce for snacks and meals. Assistance is given in purchasing supplies.
  • COLLABORATE WITH CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND THE KITCHEN SUPERVISOR TO INCORPORATE THE SEED-TO-TABLE EXPERIENCE INTO THE CURRICULUM- Guidelines for state licensing, national accreditation, and the federal food program are met. Gardening experiences for the children are provided weekly. Assistance with cooking activities in the classroom is given. Resources for seed-to-table experiences, including nutrition education, are provided to the teachers. Sustainability efforts are promoted and supported.
  • PLAN AND IMPLEMENT A "SCHOOL TO HOME" CONNECTION- Resources, e.g. recipes, gardening tips, are provided. Excess produce is provided for families.
