The Senior Accountant position will support the Corporate Accounting Manager to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting for Herschend Family Entertainment and its subsidiaries (Herschend Enterprises “HE”). In this position, the individual will be exposed to a wide variety of corporate functions and operational leaders. This individual must learn quickly, be flexible and demonstrate a high degree of initiative.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • As a member of the corporate finance and accounting team, this position will work to help create an environment where people work as a team, and empower each other by being patient, kind, humble, respectful, selfless, forgiving, honest and committed when interacting with one another and the guests.
  • Ensure financial reporting for HE is in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), applicable laws and regulations, and Corporate Accounting Standards.
  • Ensure Company Financial Policies and Procedures are followed and consistent across HE subsidiaries. Any exceptions communicated to Vice President of Finance.
  • Assist in the preparation of meeting materials including but not limited to budgeting and forecasting, capital management, and financial analysis.
  • Support the Corporate Accounting Manager by working with Corporate Division Leaders and Property Accounting Teams, manage internal and external consolidated reporting, administer consolidated account reconciliation software, support annual external audits, close the period for Corporate Divisions, and build the Corporate annual budget and forecast.
  • Responsible for Corporate account reconciliations as assigned
  • Review and evaluate the company’s certain general ledger account balances for accuracy – gather data, review, evaluate, and make appropriate calculations
  • Review and evaluate data from the company’s accounting systems for accuracy in capturing information reporting data
  • Maintain strong, effective internal controls and audit procedures
  • Prepare year-end audit schedules for annual external audit
  • Research problems, determine appropriate corrections and make recommendations as necessary
  • Responsible for period-end recording of journal entries as assigned
  • Support the Corporate Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting with special projects.

Required Skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and database software accounting systems.
  • Ability to work efficiently, handle multiple tasks, prioritize workflow, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a friendly, professional manner.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and at least 3 years’ experience. CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience in overall management of all aspects of accounting.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting cycles, company operations, and accounting systems.
