The Senior Accountant performs complex accounting functions, including analyzing balance sheets and P&L accounts, analyzing large data sets, reconciling complex accounts, preparing monthly and year-end closings, assisting in preparing annual audits, and performing other assigned accounting duties upon request. Must be detail-oriented and have strong problem and analytical skills.
Major Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex and detailed reconciliations, closure processes, research, and critical analysis
  • Identify, prioritize, and resolve complex financial issues which may span multiple areas; identify underlying issues; recognizes exceptions; recommends solutions
  • Leverage deep expertise to develop solutions to complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors
  • Prepare and record month-end journal entries for CDC & Warehouse sales, publication sales & COGS, commission charges, PCard sales & use tax, and pubs merchandise closeouts
  • Prepare and record month-end journal entries for bookstore sales and COGS, interdepartmental charges, parking revenue and ticket sales
  • Analyze large financial information data including preparing quarterly and annual Census surveys
  • Prepare monthly reclasses
  • Prepare prepaid entries and reconciliations
  • Prepare quarterly Balance sheet and P&L flux analysis
  • Perform year-end close
  • Assist with annual audit preparations
  • Provide support to other team members, as needed
  • May act as a lead and provide direction to less experienced accounting staff
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance, Master's Degree a plus
  • 5-7 years applicable experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with preparing financial reports
