The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service overseeing the Golden Gate National Recreation Area — 82,000 acres of national parkland spanning the San Francisco Bay Area, including Muir Woods, Ocean Beach, Crissy Field, and Alcatraz Island. The Parks Conservancy is a membership organization created to preserve the Golden Gate National Parks, enhance the experiences of park visitors, and build a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future.

Department Description:
The Finance & Accounting Department is a team responsible for preparing the financial statements, maintaining the general ledger, paying bills, billing customers, cost accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, contracts, insurance, and more.
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant assists in the day-to-day functions of the Finance Department’s accounting function and is expected to be familiar with a variety of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures. Reviews others’ work and reconciliations for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements. Help drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close. Optimize the use of software and other tools employed by the Conservancy in carrying out key duties and responsibilities. This position will play an integral role throughout the organization in creating value through the Finance for All Initiative. This position is based in the Parks Conservancy’s headquarters at Fort Mason in San Francisco. Due to current restrictions relating to COVID-19, we are accommodating telework with as-needed on-site work.
Reports To: Accounting Manager
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performs month-end closing activities, such as journal entries, accruals, general ledger account reconciliations, and analyses.
- Assists in driving the monthly financial closing process to ensure its integrity and timeliness.
- Prepares supporting schedules related to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close process for specific assigned accounts.
- Reviews bills and accounts payable entries.
- Investigates material variances in key general ledger accounts from prior periods.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of the documentation of internal controls and business processes.
- Contributes to the external audit process by preparing schedules, locating supporting documents, and responding to inquiries.
- Perform special analysis and research, as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- 5+ years of experience working in accounting.
- B.S. in Accounting preferred.
- Experience with and understanding of accounting for contributions, 990 filings, and other nonprofit-specific transactions preferred.
- Proficient in The Financial Edge, Sage Intacct or similar accounting software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting
- Regularly sits and/or stands at a desk for 6-8 hours per day
- Occasionally lifts and carries objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Primary office is in Fort Mason, San Francisco
Salary and Benefits: Salary starts at $100,000, negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
