StepStone is a rapidly growing Global Private Markets firm who provides customized investment and advisory solutions to some of the most sophisticated investors in the world. With $570 billion of total capital allocations, including $134 billion in AUM, we are highly diversified in the private markets across the globe and provide creative solutions to solve for the objectives of any investment program. With a culture built on entrepreneurialism, partnership and being a team within teams, our firm offers joiners the opportunity to think out loud, collaboratively.

The Team

The firm's Private Equity Secondaries team seeks to add a Senior Associate-VP to their current team of approximately 29. The Secondaries team manages over $10 billion of commitments across its commingled funds and separately managed accounts and deploys approximate $2 billion per year in private equity secondary deals, which includes the purchases of LP interests in private equity funds and structured GP‐ led secondary deals (e.g., team spin‐outs, direct investments, fund recapitalizations and other special situations). The Secondaries team expects to finish raising Fund V in 2023. The firm enjoys an exceptionally collegial and entrepreneurial culture, encouraging team‐building initiatives and a collaborative approach with a strong history of promoting from within. This position has the potential to be a Partner‐track opportunity for exceptional performers and will have exposure to all levels of the firm globally, on a daily basis.

Position Overview:

This role will engage broadly in various areas of private equity, but will focus primarily on secondaries and contribute to all aspects of the secondary deal process. It is well suited for investment professionals with a go-getter personality who are confident to develop and share their thoughtful opinion and thrive in an entrepreneurial, collaborative, low-ego culture, with high volume and fluid structure. Deals are very similar to private equity as the team takes concentrated positions. This hire should be able to think more like a portfolio manager than solely an investor, as it will be important to consider how deals link together and craft creative deal structuring. Responsibilities include:

  • Deal sourcing, screening and conducting due diligence on private equity secondary and direct investments, leveraging the firm's global network
  • Lead evaluation and analysis of secondary transactions assets across stages (i.e., buyout, venture, growth equity, etc.), industries and geographies
  • Work with outside groups, such as fund managers, company management teams and investment bankers, as well as internally across groups, to perform due diligence, find new opportunities and execute transactions
  • Prepare and present due diligence materials and investment committee memos
  • Construct an opinion around various investment opportunities and efficiently communicate it both verbally and in written materials; with the ability to defend your position in a team environment, including investment committee meetings
  • Negotiate/coordinate deal closing/structuring process and post‐close monitoring of existing investments
  • Manage relationships with private equity sponsors, intermediaries, advisors (financial, legal, commercial) and other investors

Requirements:

  • 5-7+ years of private equity (secondaries, buyout, special sits, etc.) or other relevant experience
  • Proven track record in sourcing, executing and completing successful private equity deals
  • Strong sense of risk/reward trade‐offs, and an ability to display sound investment judgement
  • Self‐starter with ability to "work a deal" and think "outside the box" when evaluating and progressing opportunities
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate and present ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Capable of multi‐tasking, with strong attention to detail
  • Promote and demonstrate a positive, team‐oriented attitude, with desire to develop, coach and lead deal teams
  • Fluent (written and spoken) English, CFA and/or MBA a plus, but not a requirement
