SME is looking for the next great Building Enclosure professional to join our Indianapolis Enclosure Team.

Job Responsibilities include:

• Apply engineering principles, physics, and materials science to the exterior enclosure of buildings to make them durable, energy-efficient, and able to reliably resist air and water infiltration;
• Assist with design, evaluation, investigation, and rehabilitation of new and existing buildings;
• Perform hands-on forensic investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations, which may include surveying, documenting distress, field testing, and collecting data and samples;
• Analyze field data, perform research, review modern and historic construction documents, and reference governing codes to help develop repair design;
• Draft and prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final client deliverables, including various construction documents, specifications, and written reports;
• Interface with internal and external project teams, clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines; and
• Assume responsibility for key aspects of projects and complete assignments with limited oversight, under the guidance of licensed professionals.

Job Requirements include:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture
• EIT/PE or RA preferred
• Experience with building design and/or construction
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Three-dimensional problem solving
• The physical demands described below are examples of essential functions of this job. This position requires the individual be able to see and hear. Further, individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment. This position requires that the applicant can:
• Safely work at heights;
• Drive and safely operate a motor vehicle;
• Lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.;
• Perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors;
• Travel outside local area for training and project requirements with some overnight stays (not anticipated to be a common occurrence);
• Use respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment;
• Safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations (training will be provided);
• Safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipment (training will be provided);

• Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: building enclosure design and construction, computer drafting, moisture migration modelling, and/or construction inspection;
• Teachable: Most of the technical components of this profession are not taught in schools, so a strong desire for unending learning of new ideas and concepts will be paramount;
• Responsible: Self-starter with willingness to interact as a team player and take independent initiative to ensure tasks are competed;
• Effective Communicator: Able to convey complex information to internal and external clients clearly with excellent writing and oral skills;
• Problem-solving: Capability to solve minor or complex problems using data, logic, judgement, and problem-solving tools; and
• Professional demeanor.
