Kadiak LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator with a Top-Secret Clearance to support Kadiak and our government customer in Vienna, Virginia.

Position Overview:
The Database Administrator role will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of databases. The DBA will provide technical expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of these databases and additionally would monitor and resolve all database issues and problems.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Serve as Lead or Subject Matter Expert for the Database Engineering area that utilize NoSQL technology; Coordinate and delegate tasking as necessary; provide recommendations to the government related to production implementation strategies, advanced troubleshooting techniques and root cause analysis.
  • Plan, create, test, tune, configure and maintain MarkLogic, NoSQL databases, specifically managing access methods, access time, and device allocation.
  • Manage database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, and integration of systems through database design.
  • Plan and coordinate the development of data structures and access strategies in alignment with business and mission requirements.
  • Plan and manage the migration of databases to new technologies.
  • Plan and install or reinstall processes and coordinate with specialists in other functional areas to resolve connectivity, compatibility, reliability, security, and related issues.
  • Assist the government when meeting with internal Operational groups and IC partners to discuss highly technical database infrastructure and solutions.
  • Recommend new technologies and efficiencies that can potentially be incorporated in the organization’s long-term IT strategy.
  • Collaborate with management and IT counterparts to define, refine, and maintain IT Database strategies, ensuring current strategies are aligned to the goals of the Agile-Scrum development environment.
  • Design, develop, and maintain the database infrastructure as the organization’s transitions from Oracle based to NoSQL based infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with other teams to test new versions of the organization’s custom applications and setup the operational databases.
  • Coordinate team resources to diagnose and resolve operational issues that involve hardware, software, storage, and networking troubleshooting.
  • Design, test and implement secure database configurations as needed.
  • Manage, maintain and enhance the database security and access.
  • Participate in COOP exercises.
  • Plan, create, test, tune, configure and maintain MarkLogic, NoSQL databases and coordinate with DEV to test new versions of the organization’s custom applications and setup the operational databases.
  • Coordinate team resources to diagnose and resolve operational issues that involve hardware, software, storage and networking troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate the evaluation and selection of data management tools.
  • Design, test and implement secure database configurations as needed.
  • Manage, maintain and enhance the database security and access.
  • Manage the development of database projects, to include but not limited to, plan and budget staff and database resources.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on DBMS concepts.
  • Establish system information requirements using analysis of the information engineer(s) in the development of enterprise-wide or large-scale information systems.
  • Analyze and define database requirements and specifications.
  • Design, normalize, develop, install, and implement databases and database patches.
  • Maintain, monitor, performance tune, backup, and recover databases across multiple sites for high availability architectures.
  • Install, configure, and maintain database management systems software.
  • Administer data standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement data mining and data warehousing programs.
  • Document procedures for installing/upgrading software and create corresponding job aids.
  • Script cron jobs for database maintenance and audit management, start and stop scripts, etc.
Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise in relational and NoSQL database management concepts and techniques.
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Must have working knowledge with storage technologies and commands.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

Working Environment & Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
