The Role

The Senior Developer, AWS will assist in fundamentally changing the way Wyndham builds, deploys, and manages cloud applications by implementing AWS solutions. The candidate will apply their experience building reliable, scalable, data driven distributed applications.This candidate must have knowledge of web protocols, and in-depth knowledge of several application servers, Linux tools and Java EE architecture.

What you'll do

  • Development efforts across multiple systems to achieve the project goal for a particular project.
  • Communicate designs and technical requirements with technical team and implementation of the overall system.
  • Develop system and detailed technical designs.
  • Assure use of best practices in design and implementation of efficient, highly performant and secure project initiatives.
  • Investigate new technologies for implementation into advanced system solutions.
  • Analyze and provide insight into complexity of business requirements, user interface design and create solutions working with development team to reduce technical complexity while maximizing business and user benefits.

You'll be successful if you have

  • Understanding of core AWS services, uses, and basic AWS architecture best practices (including security and scalability).
  • Proficiency in developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications using AWS.
  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis, profiling, and conceptual modeling.
  • Extensive experience in developing AWS data services (EC2, S3, Athena, EMR, AWS Glue, AWS CLI, Glacier, Redshift and Lambda).
  • Hands on experience in building Data Lakes using AWS services. Monitoring and optimizing the data lake environment.
  • Experience in building data ingesting services using Kinesis or other AWS services.
  • Hands on experience in Data cataloging using AWS Glue,node.js, Pyspark, Scala and cloud formation.
  • Experience with in-place querying using Amazon Athena or Redshift.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Apache projects such as Spark, Hadoop, Airflow.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and scripting tools for automation such as R, Python, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge technical and functional designs for databases, ETL, data warehousing, and reporting.
  • Strong hands-on experience in development in the AWS cloud environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence the project team to achieve the goals.
  • Ability to manage time and pressures to work on multiple initiatives at the same time.
  • Ability to work with the team to put together estimations, presentations, risks, and solutions.
  • Ability to work well in a matrix organization leading employees and consultants.
  • Team player who can mentor and guide developers and strategic partners on strategic and tactical application designs.
  • Good analytical, problem solving and technical writing skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Communication skills to clearly articulate and represent engineering team in project and/or solution meetings.

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum BS in Computer Science/Information Systems or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science preferred.
  • 6+ years of related technical work experience in the implementation of complex, large scale, enterprise wide projects including analysis, design, development and delivery.
  • 4+ years of experience architecting and developing AWS based applications. Developing and maintaining applications written in Amazon S3, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, AWS EMR, AWS Spark AWS Dynamo DB and Redshift.
  • Experience with various software development estimation techniques.
  • Deep experience in Service Oriented Architecture design, development, governance, B2B integration and deployment.
  • Strong experience in high level programming language such as Java.
  • Strong experience developing in HTML/CSS, JSON, REST, HTTP.
  • AWS certification.
  • Experience with Java EE6 and current distributed application development technologies: Core Java, Spring, JSF, JSP/Servlets, XML, XSL, XSLT, EJB, Web Services, JDBC, RMI, and HTTP/S protocols.
  • Experience with XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX, F5, DNS & SSL.
  • Experience with Source Code Management Systems – Visual Source Safe, Accurev, BitBucket, Git.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration methodologies and infrastructure.
  • Experience in developing applications for Hospitality Industry preferred.
