The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Senior Environmental Engineer to work in the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program (55 years of age or older) at the EPA Facility in Ann Arbor, MI.

Role and Responsibilities: The position provides support to the Gasoline Engine Compliance Center of the Compliance Division (CD) within the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ). Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for analyzing, processing, and auditing a variety of compliance submissions and reports, and data summaries for assigned regulatory sectors.
  • Analyzes and evaluates technical and engineering issues independently, providing expert advice and recommendations, including alternatives and recommendations for technical solutions based on an in-depth knowledge base and program experience.
  • Independently reviews and processes manufacturers’ certification submissions, providing the application audit report to the Designated Compliance Representative.
  • Reviews and tracks carryover requests, amendments, new submissions, and vehicle test requests.
  • Serves as primary testing contact for the Compliance Division for recreational vehicle testing including regular contact with the laboratories and manufacturers as vehicles are prepared for testing, tested, and released to each successive manufacturer.
  • independently researches, designs, develops and executes special test programs and investigations in support of the EPA's programs.
  • Communicates with stakeholders; responsible for coordinating any white papers, presentations, and posters at CRC, SAE, and other forums.
  • Prepare clearly written technical communications of professional quality. Examples include weekly status reports, draft letters to manufacturers, and draft issue papers for the EPA management.
  • Maintain and cultivate good relationships and resolve conflicts if necessary, with laboratory and manufacturer representatives.

Qualifications and Education Requirements: Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States; able to pass a Federal Background check; possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science related field with 15 years experience with regulatory agencies and with the Clean Air Act, EPA Title 40 regulations and guidance; possess expert knowledge and experience with internal combustion engines vehicle emission control systems; and expert knowledge of manufacturers' product lines; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; able to use database systems.


Hours & Compensation:
Full-Time position working 40 hours per week @ $43,721.60 per year ($21.01 per hour), plus benefits including paid health insurance and generous vacation/sick/holiday leave.
