Ullico Inc. is actively recruiting a Senior Life Insurance Underwriter for our Group and Individual Underwriting Team located in our Silver Spring, MD office. The dynamic candidate will possess a well-versed knowledge of medical terminology, medicine, medical science and symptomology, non-medical and financial risk selection methodologies, MIB, legal and regulatory limitations, contractual provisions, products, morbidity and mortality, underwriting guidelines, manuals and operating systems. They will have strong critical thinking and decision-making skills; attention to detail with the ability to quickly identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances of events.

The Senior Life Insurance Underwriter will perform the following duties:

• Responsible for the risk assessment and decision-making on new business and/or renewal of existing business by evaluating applications for insurance coverage and determining the risk tolerance by individual.
• Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual’s medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, and other pertinent information.
• Make assessments of applicant risk absent specific direction from Underwriting Guidelines
• Analyzes census, experience and claims data to determine premium rates for new and renewal business proposals.
• Reviews and implements benefit changes for policy holders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degreeand five to seven years of life insurance underwriting experience, with particular emphasis on individual and supplemental life insurance. General medical and prescription drug knowledge including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical conditions and diseases. Strong organizational and planning skills; able to plan, organize and effectively manage through multiple daily/weekly tasks, meet agreed upon target dates and service level agreements. Keen analytical and mathematical skills. Completion of life insurance related courses would be preferred. Effective written and oral communication skills are required. Proficiency in and demonstrated knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email applications required. Demonstrated organizational analysis, data comparison, detail-oriented and follow-up skills required.
