How will you contribute to the team?

Responsibilities include performing HVAC and plumbing load calculations, sizing and specifying equipment, ductwork and piping layout, and performing life cycle cost analysis of alternate HVAC systems for buildings. A high level of engineering judgment and experience in developing the appropriate quality engineering solutions, coordinates the activities of other team members and assists in production as needed to meet schedules. Possible need to function as a Project Engineer on specific projects of smaller scope, participate in the firm's marketing effort and supervise the tasks and methods used by other personnel assigned to the project. Excellent verbal/writing skills and interpersonal skills to interface with owners, architects, other technical professionals and builders. Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Manage/Coordinate the Mechanical Engineering discipline for medium to large Projects.
  • Client-facing opportunities & responsibilities.
  • Design and develop plans and drawings, which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or final drawings.
  • Organize and conduct engineering investigations and planning work which have a well-defined scope.
  • Outline and prepare more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional.
  • Provide engineering services during construction activities by reviewing shop drawings for conformance with specifications; prepare records and progress reports defining construction progress; observe construction procedures under the guidance of a more experienced professional and evaluate the results from quality control testing.
  • Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.
  • Contribute to the development of specifications and permit applications and write miscellaneous reports.
  • Prepare preliminary man-hour, cost and material quantity estimates.
  • Participate in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as required.
  • Perform field observations of construction where appropriate.
  • Support the National Practice, International Firm and Outreach.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus.
  • Florida or Virginia registration as a Professional Engineer is required or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months, NCEES registration is a plus.
  • This level may be achieved by technical professionals or managers with 6-15 years of experience since B.S. with at least three of these years as a registered PE with highly complex project technical lead/EOR responsibility.
  • Minimum of 4 years of design and production of mechanical systems for large commercial, institutional and government buildings/facilities including large central energy plants.
  • Proficient in Revit and Trane Trace/HAP.
  • LEED AP and/or WELL AP preferred
  • Experience in Rail/Transit Engineering Design is preferred.
  • Experience with $500MM or above programs is preferred.
