    Primary Purpose:
    Work together with NJROTC instructors and The Guthrie Center principal to execute instructional duties and other activities relating to the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program.

    Qualifications/Skills:
    Education/Certification:
    • Certified by Commander, Naval Service Training Command and hold Advanced Certification.
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
    • Commissioned Officer or Warrant Officer with Degree.
    • Minimum 20 years of active duty service in the United States Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard.
    • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in the effective use of technology related to the subjects taught.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and work with students, peers, parents, and administrators.
    • Ability to effectively teach and work with high school students, peers and other professionals.
    • Have a working knowledge of the objectives in the Naval Science curriculum.

    Major Duties and
    Responsibilities:

    Program Support:


    • Lead and develop a districtwide, high-performing NJROTC program that serves students from five high schools.
    • Teach and enhance classes prescribed in the Naval Science curriculum and instruct in military drill.
    • Conduct and maintain effective and active instruction, displaying techniques of effective classroom management that create a positive learning environment.
    • Utilize various learning techniques including a digital option for curriculum and student success.
    • Mentor cadets for higher education and career choices after graduation. Monitor cadets school progress and advise/counsel as needed.
    • Engage in regular and systematic class and activity planning with fellow NS instructors including writing and posting of lesson plans and documents. Assess unit progress to assure NJROTC program objectives are met.
    • Requisition all government furnished equipment (includes uniforms, training aids, books, drill rifles, air rifles, organizational equipment) and survey old and worn uniforms and other government property.
    • Arrange for cleaning and tailoring of uniforms.
    • Ensure proper physical security of all government furnished equipment/materials. Plan extracurricular activities for the NJROTC unit.
    • Travel with and accompany students on competitions, study trips and other events locally, statewide and occasionally nationally.
    • Maintain accurate student records and submit local, state, and federal re-ports in a timely manner.
    • Integrate academic core curriculum into meaningful, relevant curriculum, conduct effective classroom and lab instruction while maintaining discipline, and create and maintain a positive, safe learning environment.
    • Plan and organize program budget expenses and maintain accurate financial records of all accounts associated with the program.
    • Prepare financial vouchers to the Navy for reimbursement of expenditures to the school, made in sup-port of the NJROTC program.

    Staff & Student Growth and Development:


    • Keep current and abreast of new developments and organizations within the Navy.
    • Attend Navy-sponsored training to keep abreast of current requirements of program management.
    • Complete required district professional development as prescribed.

    Communication:


    • Collaborate with administrators, teachers and advisory boards.
    • Work with counselors, staff, parents and students to develop recruitment plan and monitor enrollment.
    • Promote the program by providing the designated person with communications about activities and events that will assist in actively recruiting potential students from other schools.
    Other:
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory
    Responsibilities:
    Supervise students in classrooms, labs, exterior and other designated areas.

    Equipment Used:
    Cross-platform computers, copiers, audio-visual machines and various equipment.

    Working Conditions:
    Mental Demands:
    • Maintain physical and emotional control under stress.
    • Manage students in multiple locations in program area.
    • Work with frequent interruptions.
    • This position requires regular interacting with the public.
    Physical Demands:
    • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
    • Spend many hours on feet walking or standing in multiple locations.
    • Lifting and moving computers and equipment as needed.
