Position Summary

Supervises, monitors, trains, and evaluates Registered Nurses at various major outpatient imaging centers providing MRI, CT, PET, Ultrasound, Mammography, Stereotactic Breast Biopsies, General X-Ray and Bone Densitometry services. Responsible for optimal staffing and scheduling of clinical practice nurses. Ensures compliance with clinical and nursing policies & procedures. Responsible for ensuring compliance and readiness for New York State DOH and Joint Commission. Also performs duties of an RN as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises, motivates & monitors RNs in execution of their duties. Hires, trains, & evaluates staff performance. Responsible for optimal staffing. Ensures adequate staffing to handle patient through-put of scheduled patients & same-day or emergent cases.
  • Maintains current knowledge of nursing practice and policies and procedures. Responsible for developing and providing in-service training for new nursing techniques, protocols, procedures, or new equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date Clinical Policies and Procedures and current knowledge of regulatory rules and regulations; ensures that Outpatient sites are in compliance; maintains “readiness” for inspections from external regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures that RNs’ licensure, BCLS/ACLS, Occupational Health Service, Fire Safety Training, etc. are current and in force. Maintains files on staff to ensure that documentation of current licensure and certifications are in place as required.
  • Coordinates & oversees QA/Process Improvement activities for RN staff. Documents and resolves patient complaints/incidents. Collaborates with clinicians regarding assessments and treatments. Supports quality control testing and machine calibrations.
  • Ensures highest level of patient care; develops the most efficient nursing procedures and protocols relevant. Provides assistance to reception staff in-patient scheduling as necessary to accommodate patient and referring physician requests.
  • Greets patients; explains exam to be performed. Maintains on-going awareness of patient needs. Dispenses medications as prescribed and/or directed by Physician. Documents administration and dispensing of medications.
  • Prepares & administers contrast (oral, IV, or other) for various exams via Medi-port/IV/other injection devices. Instructs patient on intake of oral contrast. Monitors patient’s pre- & post-contrast procedure for adverse/allergic reactions.
  • Reviews contrast questionnaire/clinical information forms prior to administration of contrast. Notifies physician of possible contrast reactions or other significant medical conditions, information which is relevant to exam.
  • Assists with procedures requiring ultrasound guidance and FNAs as needed. Assists Technologists in preparing patients for procedures. Participates in checking all persons entering MRI scanning area to ensure they are not carrying ferrous materials.
  • Provides health teaching & post-procedure instructions to patients, under the direction of physician. Assists in managing efficient patient flow. Assists patients to/from exams. Maintains Emergency crash carts. Observes standard safety precautions.
  • Oversees and maintains inventory of contrast and medical supplies. Maintains proper amount of laundry for patient care. Maintains cleanliness of modality equipment and dressing rooms.
  • Serves as the WCINYP representative on the NYPresbyterian Infection Prevention and Control Committee and is the point person for infection control measures for each WCINYP site.

Education

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing

Experience

Approximayely 5+ years of experience as staff nurse hospital setting or busy physician office practice required.

Prior experience in supervisory role required.
PALS Certification highly desired.
ACLS Certification highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well with technologists and physician staff.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and diplomacy and discretion in dealing with varied and sometimes difficult situations.
  • Ability to motivate staff, excellent organizational, oral and written communications skills and able to work effectively as a member of team, in a busy, fast paced environment.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current NY State Registered Nurse License & Registration.
  • BLS Certification (issued by the American Heart Association)
  • Infection Control Certificate.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Must be able to work flexible hours and possible weekends.
Maintains current unrestricted New York State License as Registered Nurse and complies with Continuing Education (CE) credits as required to maintain license.
