Summary

The Senior Officer, Strategic Foundation Partnerships will be an integral member of the Strategic Foundation Partnerships (SFP) fundraising team with a focus on independently managing relationships with several of our largest donors to help secure six and seven figure awards.

You will independently lead on efforts to expand and steward relationships with our most important donors, including The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). You will explore new areas of partnership with these donors and liaise closely with staff at Save the Children US and globally. In addition to the core fundraising responsibilities, you will serve as a focal point on the SFP team for a fundraising priority area (either gender or policy/advocacy) to ensure SFP has a robust fundraising pipeline for those areas.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Independently manage thematic fundraising strands within key existing foundation donor relationships including (BMGF) and other leadership partners (45%):

  • Lead on the exploration of partnerships in new thematic areas, including, but not limited to:
    • BMGF (gender equality, agriculture, education)
    • Other partners (education, maternal newborn and child health)
  • Independently secure and steward awards and relationships within these large, complex funders
  • Work closely with colleagues in our programs, policy, finance, legal and communications teams within Save the Children US and globally
  • Liaise with program officer and senior leadership at these funders

Independently manage relationships with donor partners and prospects (Donors could include: David & Lucile Packard Foundation, Open Society Foundations, etc.). (30%):

  • Research current foundation interests and trends in order to develop cultivation plans for each donor
  • Develop concept notes and proposals that outline how Save the Children and the foundation could partner on specific projects
  • Manage active awards from donors and ensure proper reporting requirements are met
  • Strengthen relationships with foundation staff to ensure Save the Children remains a partner of choice for donors

Serve as point person on the SFP team for a key thematic/policy area (15%):

  • Gender
    • Work collaboratively with Officer, Research & Strategy to develop fundraising pipelines for partners and prospects for our key thematic areas linked to gender including, but not limited to: Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (ARSHR), Family Planning (FP), Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), livelihoods, ending child marriage, etc.
    • Work in close collaboration with program, policy and advocacy and operations colleagues as the primary point of contact on SFP for gender

OR (depending on the interest/skillset of the hire)

  • Policy and advocacy
    • Work collaboratively with Officer, Research & Strategy to develop fundraising pipelines for partners and prospects for our global and domestic policy and advocacy priorities
    • Work in close collaboration with colleagues in Public Policy and Advocacy (PAC) and Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) as the primary point of contact on SFP for policy and advocacy

Lead Special Projects (10%)

  • Represent the SFP unit internally and externally for the benefit of the team

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in fundraising, sales, nonprofit management, philanthropy, or international development
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising best practices
  • Professional history of meeting or exceeding fundraising or business development goals and objectives
  • Track record of success in securing six and seven figure gifts from private foundation donors
  • Ability to write persuasively, clearly, and concisely, to synthesize information from multiple sources into a single, effective fundraising document
  • Demonstrated skill in making persuasive and compelling presentations to secure contributions
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally when regular travel policies resume approximately 15% of the time
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Familiarity with policy and advocacy
  • Experience working with global colleagues in a federated model

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1- NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Up to $128,000/ year
  • Geo 2-Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Up to $116,000/ year
  • Geo 3-Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Up to $104,000/year

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location.
