Senior Product Line Manager - VMware Cloud Regulated Markets

The Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

At VMware, we are building the modern hybrid cloud experience for our customers and partners. The VMware Cloud Infrastructure Business Group is looking for an exceptional product manager to join our team and help lead this industry transition to the modern hybrid cloud, powered by VMware and delivered on public cloud infrastructure from AWS, Google, Azure, Oracle, and Alibaba. In this role, you will lead the effort to define and shape VMware Cloud services for global regulated markets including government, healthcare, and finance.

You will have ownership and autonomy to think strategically and make decision driving significant impact to the business. You will lead building functionality that spans multiple product lines and handles different types of stakeholder and developer needs. You will get to work with an experienced team of brilliant (and fun) people in a dynamic environment. You will be participating in growing a new business that is revolutionizing the cloud computing world.

Activities include research and analysis of customer requirements; working collaboratively with multiple engineering teams using an Agile development model; working closely with a distributed team to define and build VMware Cloud; creating valuable collateral (white papers, blogs and presentations), and enabling our sales team and partners for success at scale.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 12 months you will work toward completing?

  • In your first 30 days, you will quickly come up to speed on the VMware Cloud product portfolio and gain a grasp on new technology concepts/initiatives in our pipeline. You’ll also start to get to know stakeholders and collaborators – critical to get your job done well.
  • By day 90, you are taking the lead in coordinating communications to our field and partners, defining and clarifying our product roadmap, and taking ownership of our product messaging and collateral.
  • After 180 days, you will be a familiar face to our sales teams, partners, and customers in the global Regulated Markets space. You will coordinate outbound communications, including soliciting feedback from customers and stakeholders to continue to improve the product, while defining what’s next in the pipeline.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • The essence of a product manager is to gather customer and business requirements and translate them into a prioritized set of requirements for engineering and other parts of the organization to use to deliver a solution to customers. Success is measured by customer adoption and other key metrics.
  • To achieve this, you will be regularly meeting with our sales team, partners, and customers to understand their needs and pain points, as well as with colleagues across the company to understand their plans and how we can collaborate for customer success.
  • For your proposals to be understood and approved, excellent written- and verbal communication is essential, whether discussing with internal colleagues, up the management chain, or discussing with customers for feedback and validation.

Your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Discover and prioritize a broad set of industry-specific use cases and define requirements.
  • Collaborate with our engineering, SRE and architecture teams to deliver key features
  • Interface with multiple internal teams, including sales, engineering, compliance, and marketing to drive achievement of organization objectives and key results

Key qualifications and requirements:

  • Strategic and critical thinker who can translate ambiguous user problems into market applicable, tangible solutions.
  • 5+ years as a product manager building and launching technical cloud (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS) products and services
  • Strong working knowledge of US and global compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, DoD Cloud SRG, SOC, ISO, HIPAA, and PCI
  • Proven ability to handle multiple, complex technical projects and the flexibility to work in an agile environment.
  • Able to operate with autonomy and successfully influence cross-functional teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • BA/BS in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on familiarity with agile infrastructure and public cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure)
