This is the perfect position for a dynamic communicator who is looking to make a positive impact in the world. This position will manage and execute public relations and strategic communications campaigns for the BYU Marriott School of Business while also providing creative support for web development, fundraising, and other activities at the school.
You will also be a part of a team of storytellers who interact with and share the inspiring stories of our students, faculty, alumni, and other friends of the school through many different mediums and communication channels.
Essential Functions
Lead BYU Marriott’s public relations and external strategic communications efforts
- Head BYU Marriott’s editorial team, which identifies content, stories, and topics to share through the college’s owned communication channels
- Execute the college’s content strategy for delivery through various mediums
- Project manages editorial content for publishing stories to the media, school, and general public
- Write high-profile stories
- Supervise student writing team’s research and writing, including hiring, training, and managing their daily work
- Primary editor for student-written stories
- Oversee BYU Marriott’s editing staff and students
- Field media inquiries and help prepare college leadership and faculty for interviews
- Work with BYU to publicize far-reaching stories
Direct social media efforts
- Manage social media team, including a ¾-time employee and student employees
- Help develop and execute college social media strategy
- Update and train college users on the school’s social media guidelines
- Monitor social media messages daily as relates to the BYU Marriott School of Business
- Actively write and post on the college social media channels
- Manage and build the school’s social media following with key audiences, including alumni, recruiters, students, and prospective students
- Train and consult with programs, centers, and departments on their use of social media
- Advise the BYU Marriott student council on the use of their @byumarriottlife Instagram account
Manage online communications and websites
- Manage the school’s websites
- Develop communications and marketing messages for BYU Marriott websites
- Write college-wide digital content
- Strategically assist programs and centers in creation of digital content
- Review and approves department-level content
- Ensure new websites meet BYU and BYU Marriott’s guidelines for security, accessibility, and branding standards
Manage business school rankings and media surveys
- Complete rankings data submissions
- Analyze ranking data and statistics
- Maintain records of and fulfill all requests for data and information released to the public and in school materials (web, annual reports, etc.)
- Keep a historical record of rankings
Education/Experience
Minimum education/experience required:
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, or related field and five years full-time work experience doing public relations, marketing, or communications functions; or at least ten years of full-time experience in public relations, marketing, or communications.
Preferred:
Business minor and/or dual major or master’s degree in business, PR, or communications and five years of experience in and exposure to higher education public relations/communications
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications
Required:
- Experience conducting and applying effective primary and/or secondary research
- Excellent persuasive writing skills
- Experience using Microsoft Office and project management software
- Proficiency in AP and Chicago editing styles
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Social media management experience
- Solid grasp of online publishing/communication strategies
- Ability to prioritize requests from multiple departments
- Sound understanding of copyright laws
- Ability to manage and analyze data
Preferred:
- Management of a team of writers/editors in a professional setting
- Media relations management experience
- Experience with basic statistics
- Database reporting experience
