SUMMARY

We are hiring a Senior Tax Accountant for our corporate office in Birmingham, AL! The Senior Tax Accountant oversees the smooth functioning of sales, use, and property tax returns processes. They will apply knowledge of state and local tax to ensure complete, accurate, and timely filing of all sales/use and property tax returns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the maintenance of sales tax software for both store and e-commerce sales.
• Review purchase invoices to ensure proper use tax accrual.
• Review of monthly sales and use tax returns.
• Data collection and reconciliation for monthly sales and use tax returns.
• Assist in the data collection for state and local sales and use tax audits and property tax audits.
• Assist in the review of personal property tax returns for office and store locations.
• Review notices of valuation for all locations.
• Maintain filing calendar for all personal property tax filings and payments to ensure that all filing deadlines are met.
• Oversee the processing of timely and accurate tax registrations for sales/use tax.
• Perform sales/use tax research utilizing tax software and subscriptions.
• General tax accounting functions including tax account reconciliation and analysis, journal entries, and communication with accounting team and internal auditors.
• Protects the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and informing management and/or appropriate officials of potential fraud risk.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience in tax, preferably with an accounting firm or multistate corporation.
• Strong detail oriented and analytical skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to use Microsoft Excel proficiently.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience or willing to learn tax research software and sales tax software tools.
• Can easily adapt to new technology.
