Volunteers play an integral role in the delivery of the mission of Girl Scouts. As a Service Unit Support Specialist, you’ll recruit and provide support to service unit volunteers in your assigned areas, to help ensure a positive experience that supports the growth and retention of volunteer and youth members.
How you'll contribute:
The Service Unit Support Specialist will support the volunteer and membership experience through a wide variety of support, including the following:
- Building strong volunteer teams by recruiting, training, and developing volunteers in assigned areas.
- Providing ongoing coaching and direction to volunteers in assigned areas by interpreting Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts San Diego policies, standards, and procedures
- Continually update knowledge of tools and resources and ensure volunteers have the knowledge to leverage those resources
- Follow GSSD’s volunteer management processes including the recruitment, screening, selection, placement, development, training, recognition, and re-assignment of service unit volunteers.
- Providing customer support and follow-up with volunteers in a timely manner and uphold customer service standards.
- Identifying and provide timely problem solving and conflict resolution when appropriate.
- Optimizing the use of technology (including the customer relationship management system) in providing customer service to volunteers.
- Serving as the main point of contact for service unit volunteers and acts as a broker to distribute information to council staff and guide volunteers to additional support services and resources. Keeps current on cross-departmental information and supports training and messaging provided for service unit volunteers.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to assist in fulfillment of GSSD’s mission and goals.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to set and balance priorities while taking direction from multiple sources.
- Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and work to complete critical tasks independently and with a sense of urgency.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Pleasant and positive presentation of self to staff and volunteers.
- Demonstrated strong proficiency in MS Office programs (specifically word processing, mail merging, and Excel).
- Ability to collect data from multiple sources and merge the data into coherent and grammatically correct documents.
- Must have belief in the mission and values of Girl Scouting; be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law, and aware of the needs of girls in our pluralistic society.
