Job description
The starting pay will begin at $18.53 on the pay scale, will have a pay increase after six (6) full months of employment and will have annual increases thereafter, maxing out at the top step of the pay scale.
SIGN-ON BONUS
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is proud to offer up tp a $3,000 sign-on bonus to new full-time Sheriff's Technical Assistant 2 employees. This is not for current Spokane County employees. This bonus is paid out in two payments: 50% of the bonus will be paid on the first regularly scheduled payday after your first day of employment with Spokane County Sheriff's Office; the remaining 50% of the bonus will be paid after one year of service as a Spokane County Sheriff's Office employee and successful completion of probationary period.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Positions in this classification may function as the only or principle clerical support personnel in an office; must have the ability to relieve technical and/or administrative superiors of routine office or technical responsibilities. Positions in this class may work as part of a team; must have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. Incumbents are expected to be -responsible for the flow and completion of work within their assigned unit, within general guidelines, and with full occupational levels of skill a-nd accuracy. Incumbents must be able to use independent judgment in the application and/or choice of procedures in determining the priority of workload. Work is subject to cross-checking and/or general review.

Oral Board Interviews: Will be scheduled upon successful completion of the written exam.PLEASE NOTE: All Civil Service exams, oral board interviews, or any other interview involved with this position must be conducted in-person at the applicant's expense. - NOTE: Most Sheriff’s Technical Assistant 2 (STA2) positions in the Spokane County Sheriff's Office are full-time. Spokane County has one 50% (20 hours per week) STA2 position with benefits (at the 50% employee rate). This position is expected to be at 50% for 2022 and the Sheriff’s Office will work on transitioning it to a full-time employee position starting in 2023. A review of the position will occur no later than December 1, 2022. The position will be assigned to the Forensics Unit and will report to Forensics Unit supervisors. Generally, the days of work and hours for this position will occur during dayshift, three days per week.
THIS JOB POSTING IS TO CREATE ELIGIBILITY LISTS FOR ALL SHERIFF’S TECHNICAL ASSISTANT 2 (STA2) POSITIONS IN THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. There will be an option to be placed on either the full-time list, the part-time list, or both lists. If you are on the current STA2 eligibility list(s), you do not need to re-apply.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as an exclusive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, but only as a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent may not be required to perform all duties and may be required to perform additional, position specific duties.
Maintain confidentiality of all information in Sheriff’s Office records and files.
Receive and transcribe reports from arresting officers, investigators, supervisors, suspects, prisoners, and witnesses, working with recordings, handwritten and/or oral reports, or notes and provide rough copies or final reports. Type correspondence, reports, legal forms, documents, memos, and directives. Proofread all work to ensure accuracy of grammar, spelling, etc. and make corrections, as necessary. Transcribe statements and depositions verbatim from recordings from suspects, prisoners, and witnesses; must be able to testify in court as to the accuracy of said transcription.
Create, update, and maintain all specialized records and files.
Answer multi-line phones; handle public inquires. Perform duties as receptionist, handling telephone and counter work as required.
Archive files as needed. Perform records retention duties as needed.
Draft reports as requested.
Order and maintain supplies; inventory other items as needed.
Use various computer programs; record, search, print, correct, and design spreadsheets and programs; create new forms and/or files as needed.
Take fingerprints using Livescan machine and software program; ability to take inked palm prints on a variety of different types of employment applicants, licensees, juvenile arrests, and sex offender registrations.
Capture photographs using video system. Correct and maintain criminal history and identification information found in the Law Enforcement Records Management System (LERMS). Build or fix identification records in LERMS.
Log and bill Washington State Patrol for sex offender registrations.
Conduct 10-print fingerprint comparisons. Take DNA samples of individuals as ordered by the courts.
Collect and route employee/office incoming mail. Process outgoing mail.
Maintain attendance records.

- understand and execute oral and written instructions and to apply available guidelines to varied situations
