Program: Safe Sleeping Village

Reports to: Program Manager

Compensation: $24-$26 per hour commensurate with experience. Full-time. Program and Position Summary:

The Dolores Safe Sleep Village was opened in September 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. It is one of nine different programs operated by DSCS. The Dolores Safe Sleep Village is and emergency shelter program serving a COVID unknown population. The Safe Sleep Village consists of more than 40 client and outdoor tent spaces and is located in the Mission neighborhood. Please note this is an outdoor position. We require all staff to be up-to-date with COVID vaccination record.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the safety and security of shelter sites and respond to emergency situations, as needed
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates full- and part-time shelter monitors
  • Helps coordinate, plan, and facilitate staff training and meetings
  • Consistently enforces all shelter policies for staff and program participants
  • Make regular reports to management using daily logs, forms, e-mail, and phone calls
  • Reports issues requiring repairs and maintenance to the Facilities Manager
  • Provides after-hour on-call support as needed for urgent shelter matters; cover shifts in emergency situations, as needed
  • Completes other pertinent administrative tasks in a timely manner
  • Facilitates daily check-in and check-out of guests from the shelter
  • Mediates and de-escalates conflicts
  • Assist Program Manager with program planning, implementation, and evaluation, as needed
  • Remains awake and alert during assigned shifts, and ensures that other night staff are also doing so


Other Organizational Duties:

  • Conduct business in accordance with the DSCS Employee Handbook, exercising sound judgment and serving the best interests of the agency and the community.
  • Commit yourself to treating each community member with respect and dignity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities, with an ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of clients and colleagues
  • Commitment to social justice issues, and familiarity with DSCS' mission and organizational work
  • At least 2 years of experience providing services to homeless or extremely low-income adults and/or families, the LGBTQ community, day laborers and/or immigrants
  • At least 2 years of experience training and supervising staff required; program oversight/ management experience strongly preferred
  • Bilingual fluency in spoken English and Spanish preferred, and the ability to write fluently in at least English, required
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize work required
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to stay awake during any assigned shift, lift approximately 30 pounds, and navigate stairs and narrow workspaces
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook; experience using databases and grant management systems (GMS, CMS, etc.) a plus
  • COVID-19 Vaccination required


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Background in and passion for working with low-income and immigrant communities around issues of affordable housing, land use, and/or immigrant & worker rights; familiarity with these issues in the Mission District and San Francisco, highly desired.
  • Bilingual in spoken and written Spanish, highly desired
