General Job Title: Shrimp Feed Research Laboratory Technician

Days/Hours: 5 days/week (Sun - Thu or Tue - Sat), Full time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Reports To: Research & Development Lab Operations Manager

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: As part of the Zeigler Aquaculture Research Center research team, the employee will be responsible for feeding shrimp in larval rearing tanks, aquarium systems and tank-based system. Employee will also be required to measure water quality, carry out observations on shrimp in the research systems, perform data entry and carry out routine laboratory maintenance tasks.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Weighing out and preparing feeds for feed studies in larval rearing, cup and aquarium systems
• Feeding larval, juvenile and adult shrimp
• Recording feeding data
• Make and record observations on shrimp feeding behavior
• Measure and record water quality parameters
• Perform tank and system maintenance procedures
• Computer data entry

Training, Skills, Knowledge and/or Experience:

• Prefer experience maintaining aquatic systems
• Sufficient computer skills to be able to enter data into an Excel spreadsheet
• Detail oriented
• Ability to follow instructions

Competencies:

• Ability to read and write English Language
• Basic computer skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions
• Able to lift 30 lbs to a height of 5 feet and lift a feed bag weighing 50 lbs to a height of 2 feet

Working Conditions:

• The feed laboratory is a hot and humid environment
• Due to volume and nature of the work, must be able to work quickly without making mental errors.

Educational Requirements:

• Minimum: Associates degree
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree

Job Type: Full-time & Part-time positions available

Starting Salary: $15.75/hour
