Reporting to the Director of Early Childhood Education, the basic functions of the Site Director is to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Erie Neighborhood House’s early childhood education center and maintain a high quality of services to children and their families. This includes assuring compliance with city, state, and federal regulations, as well as assuming overall responsibility for all tasks related to the early childhood education program in the absence of the Director.
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the early childhood education program.
- Responsible for compliance with all licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
- Completes quarterly classroom observations to ensure compliance with all licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements and gives timely feedback to support teacher performance, professional development, and continuous program quality improvement.
- Reviews 10% of funded enrollment children's files monthly for accuracy and proper content.
- Works with staff to maintain a quality program that meets Chicago Early Learning, Head Start, NAEYC and Excelerate Gold requirements. Supports teaching staff in preparing for these visits.
- Collaborates with Senior Director of Operations to ensure the center environment meets health and safety standards per licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
- Provides supervision and daily placement of lead teachers, assistant teachers, substitutes, interns and volunteers.
- Assists in recruitment, interviewing, selection, and orientation and onboarding of new staff.
- Completes yearly performance evaluations for lead teachers and kitchen staff.
- Ensures that proper teacher-child ratios are maintained at all times throughout the program day.
- Supervises kitchen staff and maintains the CACFP Nutritional program at the center, including updating menus on a quarterly basis and placing weekly food order.
- Meets monthly with Director of Early Childhood Education for supervision and support, updating Director on staff and program strengths and challenges.
- Assist with the development of improvement plans as needed.
- Meets monthly with lead teachers for reflective supervision and support.
- Complete annual performance evaluations for lead teachers and kitchen staff.
- Participates in all agency meetings/trainings as well as those offered by grantors.
- Participates in the budget planning and implementation process.
- Assists in the completion of the annual community assessment, the self-assessment, and development of management plans.
- Attends program related events.
- Oversees the operations of the early childhood education program in the absence of the Director of Early Childhood Education.
- Participates in the recruitment of families for participation in the program.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, with at least five years’ experience in a preschool or daycare setting.
- Minimum of three years supervisory experience preferred.
- Type 04 Professional Educator License preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
- Illinois Gateways Director's Credential Level II.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to any emergency.
- Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Upon offer of employment, must complete all forms related to hiring, including Erie's application and employment status, and must provide three letters of recommendation. In addition, must complete all DCFS licensing forms, including a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and a child abuse and neglect background check.
