This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact on health outcomes for SNAP-eligible, low-income adults in Baldwin, Twiggs, Washington, and other counties through the implementation of direct nutrition education classes in community sites and workplaces. The SNAP-Ed Health Educator may have the opportunity to impact policy and environmental changes in workplaces to promote healthy eating and active living. The direct nutrition education classes include involving participants in recipe demonstrations and physical activity segments led by the SNAP-Ed Health Educator. This position will be based in Milledgeville, GA (Baldwin County) and does not offer relocation assistance. Candidate must live within a reasonable commuting distance. If relocating to Milledgeville or surrounding area, please specify on the application. This is a grant-funded position.

Direct Nutrition Education
- Develop relationships with community sites in Baldwin, Twiggs, Washington, and possibly other counties to actively recruit eligible participants for direct nutrition education.
- Manage all aspects of planning and preparing for the direct nutrition education class series from securing a location, to developing the schedule, to making sure all resources are in place.
- Facilitate classes using the Eating Smart, Being Active curriculum (8-week evidence-based curriculum) to provide direct nutrition education to eligible participants.
- Implement a minimum of four Eating Smart, Being Active 8-week series each quarter.
- Support DPH in disseminating the Community Garden mini-grant opportunity to community organizations in Baldwin, Twiggs, and Washington Counties.
- Maintain ongoing communication with mini-grant recipient organizations and actively participate in developing a bi-directional referral system between the direct nutrition education sessions and the community gardens.
- Support DPH in disseminating the Hydrate My State social marketing campaign which encourages the consumption of water instead of sugar sweetened beverages.
- Plan at least one in-person community event around the Hydrate My State campaign which will include infused water test tasting, interactive activities, and distribution of information handouts
- Participate in required DPH monthly telephone calls, webinars, trainings, collaboration meetings, and technical assistance opportunities.
- Participate in any site visits related to SNAP-Ed required by DPH.
- Submit monthly programmatic progress reports and group observation forms by 5th of each month.
- Submit quarterly workplan progress reports.
- Submit required pre- and post-surveys, sign-in sheets, and site assessments.
- Submit one success story annually illustrating one successful NCHD SNAP-Ed activity.
- With support of supervisor and budget analyst, submit monthly expenditure reports.
- Self-motivated, energetic.
- Enthusiastic about leading recipe demonstrations and physical activity segments with participants.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, but also able to get work completed individually.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and desire to work with the target group (SNAP-eligible, low-income adults).
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Attention to detail and deadlines in collecting data and completing required reports.
Master's degree in public health education from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in community health programs with low-income adults. First-hand experience working with community residents and community organizations.
