Based at the state Capitol, the Secretary of State's Executive Office regularly interacts with the people of Washington, key stakeholder groups, leaders statewide, and media outlets. The Executive Office is critical to the success of all major OSOS services and responsibilities through general oversight and leadership, the development of public policy, legislative relations, and external communications.

The OSOS is looking for a Social Media Coordinator (Communications Consultant 4). This position reports directly to the Communications Director and supports the OSOS mission by using technology to enhance customer service and public outreach through social media content. The work of the social media coordinator directly affects the general public, the media, the business community, voters, archive and library users, charity donors, historical organizations, and many others.


Social Media Coordinator

Full-time, Permanent

This position reports directly to the Communications Director and is a part of the Executive Office of the Office of Secretary of State (OSOS). This position supports the OSOS mission by using technology to enhance customer service and public outreach through social media content. The work of the social media coordinator directly affects the general public, the media, the business community, voters, archive and library users, charity donors, historical organizations, and many others.

Duties

Social Media Coordination

  • Develops, implements, and manages office social media strategy
  • Monitors social media platforms and recommends to the Communications Director opportunities to engage
  • Responds to queries and facilitates productive dialogue across office accounts
  • Collaborates with Communications team to maintain consistent brand voice across all platforms
  • Develops and oversees paid social campaigns, and measures the success of such campaigns using platforms’ out-of-the-box analytics tools
  • Monitors user engagement and other metrics on organic and paid posts, and suggest content optimization
  • Maintains social media posting calendar
  • Recommends changes to office social media strategy and methodologies using the latest social media trends, best practices, and technologies
  • Trains internal employees on how to use social media platforms, and review submissions from office content contributors
Visual Information Management
  • Creates engaging text, image, and video content in consultation with other Communications team members
  • Edits and produces organic photo and video content for internal and external publication
Miscellaneous
  • Assists Communications team with various tasks, including web content posting, writing assignments, public and media relations, and more

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Four years of experience as a professional social media coordinator or similar role
  • Experience posting content and responding to queries across multiple platforms, including but not limited to: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram
  • Experience interpreting and making recommendations from Facebook and Twitter analytics suites, and other tools
  • Highly competent with Microsoft Office and Adobe program suites, and video editing software such as Teams, O365, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated success working in complex information environments and countering mis- and dis-information with truthful and accurate information
  • Proficiency in photo and video composition principles
  • Experience posting content and responding to queries on YouTube and Reddit
  • Comprehension of visual design principles, and some experience with graphic design platforms, such as Canva
  • Familiarity with AP writing style
  • Ability to carry out components of an overarching, multi-faceted communications strategy
  • Working knowledge of content management systems, like Drupal and Wordpress;
  • Familiarity with the legislative process and state governmental operation

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions
In this position, the incumbent works primarily in an office setting, which will require the ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. The standard work hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with the ability to work irregular hours and weekends on short notice as needed to support business activities. During elections periods, it is expected that the Social Media Coordinator will work the hours necessary (including weekends, holidays, and evenings) to ensure that the Office and its position are well represented. Occasional local and statewide travel may be required. The incumbent in this position must be able to represent the Office of the Secretary of State in a competent, confident, and professional manner, including professional dress, and be able to communicate ideas and information both verbally and in writing, and work successfully with a wide variety of people in a team environment.
