While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties. Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture. Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather, meet multiple demands from several people, and interact with the public and other staff.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work or LISW- Licensed independent social worker or Master social worker license issued by the Iowa Board of
Social Work Examiners.

1. MAJOR FUNCTION: Assessment of Student, Family & School Needs
Effectively and appropriately assesses and addresses the needs, characteristics, and interactions of students, families, and community.
- Research, develop and coordinate administration of school-wide and targeted mental health and social/emotional screening tools and assessments
- Use student, family, and school assessment results to identify needs that affect student learning.
- Develop, review, and evaluate orientation and school transition activities and procedures for students and families
- Serve as the Homeless Liaison for assigned school(s) ensuring students and families experiencing housing insecurity have access to school and community resources
- Serve as the Community Agencies Facilitator for assigned school(s)
- Develop, lead, and/or refer students to group interventions for a range of social, emotional, behavioral, mental health and basic needs issues
- Provide individual support to students for a range of social, emotional, behavioral, mental health, and basic needs issues
- Participate in MTSS building implementation
- Develop and participate in efforts that promote student voice and advocate for the needs of under-represented student populations.
3. MAJOR FUNCTION: Consultation and Collaboration
- Collaborate with all school resource positions on issues of attendance, diversity, mental health, crisis intervention, child abuse and neglect, and bullying and harassment
- Take an active role with building intervention and planning teams.
- Take an active role in community/school partnership teams, task forces, panels, and projects
- Evaluate and help coordinate student extracurricular and community involvement opportunities that foster student leadership and service and promote school and community engagement
4. MAJOR FUNCTION: Program Planning, Implementation & Evaluation
- Use assessment, evaluation, and universal screening results from multiple sources to develop and recommend appropriate interventions for individuals, families, schools, and communities
- Participate in planning and implementation of school and/or system-wide programs to promote a safe, healthy, caring school climate that fosters academic success.
- Take an active role in projects and initiatives aimed at alleviating bias, discrimination, and injustice in school systems and communities
- Assists the school and community in planning programs that alleviate situations that may interfere with the learning process of students.
