Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services, Inc. (DMRS) is the largest provider of high quality immigration legal services in West Texas and New Mexico. On average, DMRS serves 30,000 per year. Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services, Inc. (DMRS) has an immediate opening for a Social Services Provider within our Unaccompanied Minors Program (UMP).
The Social Services Provider will work with the Children’s Program Director, Attorneys, Social Services Supervisor, and General Clerks to ensure holistic and culturally sensitive provision of legal services to unaccompanied minors detained in our service area. Legal services include the provision of Know-Your-Rights presentations, legal screenings, and legal representation to unaccompanied immigrant children detained in our service area. The Social Work team facilitates consultations on complex cases, offers crisis management, and triages cases with the UMP Legal Team, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) personnel, and Program Director. The Social Services Provider also provides subject matter expertise and training on trauma-informed, client centered interventions, and crisis responses.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinates and communicates with caseworkers and legal representatives to advocate for child’s needs;
- Inputs client information, case notes, updates and maintains databases and spreadsheets, as required;
- Provide monthly reports of progress to Children’s Program Director, the Legal Director, and the Executive Director;
- Conducts Know Your Rights (KYR) presentations and individual legal screenings as needed, especially for children with special needs or tender age children;
- Maintain good relations with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ORR, and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR);
- Participate in regular staff meetings with the rest of the team to discuss cases and program developments;
- Prepare for and participate in site visits and conference calls with Acacia;
- Respond to Acacia e-mails and reports; and
- Comply with contractual requirements of the grant, including completing referrals as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work, or similar field, from an accredited university (proof of degree grant required)
- Minimum one year experience working in a professional atmosphere
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to provide services to children of various ages
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English fluently
- Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish fluently
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to immigration and public interest law
- Ability to work in a high-paced, high-volume environment
