Responsibilities:We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time if and when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.

The Software Engineer - Commercial Space will:

  • Apply engineering principles and techniques to requirements validation, product development, product integration, requirements verification, system validation, and hardware/software product deployment.
  • Support the development of Spacecraft software design.
  • Support the design and development of Command and Data Handling hardware and software.
  • Investigate process improvement initiatives that promote the progression of System Engineering and Integration (SE&I) expertise within a more digitized SE&I environment.
  • Establish working relationships with customer counterparts, requirement owners, and commercial teammates’ key personnel to promote SE&I functions.
  • Provide technical systems knowledge during major project milestones and project reviews.
  • Integrate software solutions in a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:*

  • BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, from an accredited engineering school, plus five (5) years of related engineering experience.
  • - OR -*
  • BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, from an accredited engineering school, plus ten (10) years of related engineering experience.

- OR -

  • BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, from an accredited engineering school, plus fifteen (15) years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience with Engineering analysis.
  • Software test experience.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices associated with the definition, design, development, verification, implementation, testing, integration, and validation of complex systems.
  • Experience working on cross-discipline engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams).

Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with object-oriented software programming.
  • Knowledge of Space Exploration programs, the International Space Station and its visiting vehicles.
  • Experience with software architecture.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis.
  • Working experience with DOORS requirements management software or other requirements management software.
  • Experience with Python script development.
  • Experience with Agile development.
  • Experience with Data Analytics and Business Intelligence.
  • Experience with firmware development.

Essential Requirements*

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $84,172 - $129,065
