About Your Role:

Dotdash Meredith is looking for a Team Lead, Front-End Development with a demonstrated track record of mentorship, innovative thinking, and technical excellence. You will work in a collaborative Agile environment to support and expand the website of one of our flagship brands.

As the technology leader on your scrum team, you will be responsible for helping to set technical direction, holding high standards for best engineering practices, realizing your ideas in code, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver high performant features on our brand websites and make an impact on millions of our users.


About Your Contributions:

  • Manage and mentor front-end developers on your team, to grow their skills and prepare them for increased responsibility.
  • Prototype and develop responsive and elegant cross-platform functionality on a custom server-side component framework, built on Java but leveraging SCSS, Freemarker templates, XML, and JavaScript (ES6+) on the front-end, with VueJS increasingly used for more interactive components
  • Lead discussions about project architecture and technical feasibility, make decisions and justify your development approach.
  • Lead initiatives like code reviews, brown bag learning sessions, etc to improve engineering excellence for the team.
  • Develop a technical roadmap for the team to keep tech debt in check and consistently maintain and improve the codebase health.
  • Work closely with the product owner to help address business needs while maintaining engineering standards.

About You:

  • 4+ years in a web development position. The ideal candidate will have spent at least one year working as a “full-stack” developer.
  • 1+ years of experience with managing other developers (preferable not required). Interested in and committed to growing into a leadership role to mentor and coach other developers.
  • Proficient with HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript; Experience with one or more other programming languages. Have a high-level understanding of web architecture.
  • Experience working with a component-based web framework, particularly one with a server-side templating aspect (e.g., Apache Tiles, Vue+Nuxt, React+Next). Candidates without this should have significant experience with at least one server-side templating language (e.g., JSP, FTL, Handlebars, ERB).
  • Comfortable using the tools of modern collaborative Agile+Scrum SDLC, including Git, Jira, planning poker, etc
  • Great problem-solving skills, can translate business requirements into technical solutions, and delegate to team members.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with various stakeholders involved.

Pay Range: $138,000 to $173,000


The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith’s total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives. In addition, Dotdash Meredith provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a generous 401K employer matching program, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
