This position is responsible for the identification and development of suppliers for commodities utilized in the production of Komatsu Newberry products. Suppliers to be developed to support Quality, Cost, and Delivery targets. This position is responsible for the development of a supplier base that encourages continuous product improvement and cost reduction. This position supervises Sourcing Specialists in pursuit of these objectives.
Key Job Responsibilities
Provide leadership, training, motivation, and supervision to workgroup in order to meet or exceed quality, cost, and delivery objectives
Researches and identifies viable suppliers for assigned commodities.
Develops new or alternate suppliers for new and current parts and materials.
Determines supplier qualifications. Optimizes the match up of supplier abilities and capacities with Komatsu Quality, Cost, Delivery requirements.
Negotiates contracts and agreements with suppliers. This includes all pricing issues. Inventory implications to be a major consideration in all negotiations.
Make field trips to suppliers as required to maintain optimum relationships in respect to product or communication issues.
Responsible for quote file and cost system maintenance, including preferred supplier selection.
Coordinate or monitor sourcing activities for new product introductions.
Maintain an interface with engineering to better coordinate supplier selection in support of new product releases.
Lead efforts in supplier related cost reduction or quality improvement programs.
Qualifications/Requirements
B.S. degree in Business Administration, Industrial Management, Industrial Engineering, and/or Eight or more years of experience in Production and Inventory Control, Materials Management, or Purchasing, in the metal working industry related to castings, forgings, fabrications, machined parts, gears, etc.
Knowledge of material requirements planning systems and related computer-based inventory management systems.
Basic understanding of technology involved in producing assigned commodities (forgings, castings, fabrications, and machined components).
Understand and apply PC and related software applications to meeting department and company objectives.
Understanding of value engineering as related to cost reduction activities, and knowledge and understanding of basic cost accounting principles.
