Position Summary Information

Summary
The Special Assistant to the President and Secretary to the Board provides direct assistance to the President and serves as a conduit for high level projects, ensures accurate, proper, timely and appropriate flow of information to and from the Office of the President, and provides support as needed. The Special Assistant manages the office of the President; oversees presidential activities and initiatives; works with the President on Executive Management Team meetings and retreats and ensures actions identified in these meetings are tracked and completed, including malmanagement of the President’s Office annual budget and serving as an ambassador for the University. The Secretary to the Board of Trustees provides oversight of both meeting and retreat preparation; acts as a liaison to facilitate the President’s relationship with the Board and others matters related to the effective function of the Board on behalf of the University.

Starting Salary Range: $87,407 – $104,888

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) Manage the operations of the Office of the President and serving as an interface with members of the Executive Management Team (EMT) to ensure key issues are proactively addressed. Develop agendas for EMT meetings, retreats and ad-hoc EMT meetings, and represent the President in internal and external interactions with faculty, staff, alumni and community leaders.
2) Coordinate the office budget in addition to long and short-term projects and tasks, on behalf of the President and Board of Trustees as a whole, which require community, campus and/or identified stakeholder accountability while advancing and assessing the work of the Office of the President to ensure continued effectiveness. Keep the President informed about changes to and updates to plans, priorities and strategies.
3) Facilitate the President’s relationship with the Board of Trustees by assisting with all Board meeting and committee agendas, meeting materials, technology needs, minutes, travel and accommodations for Board members, trustee retreats and orientations, and other matters necessary for the effective functioning of the Board.
4) Leads and completes special projects and assignments as required, particularly those having inter-divisional implications.
5) Serves as institutional representative on internal committees.
6) Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Master’s degree, doctoral degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
Seven years of progressive administrative experience in business, governmental, educational or nonprofit institution required.

Experience with organizational development and change as well as experience with program development and building partnerships is preferred.

Experience in leadership, comfort with building relationships of trust with many communities that are a part of the University, and ability to navigate political and community complexities.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
