EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Maintain and update special education student records, schedule and notify parents of upcoming Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings and assist the Special Education Campus Coordinator with departmental needs.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains and updates Special Education Student Records and instructional modifications by inputting data into the North East Independent School District Mainframe Computer (SEMS) and input of Instructional Modifications for Special Education Students (SEMP).
2. Schedules ARD meetings for Special Education Students to include notifying parent, teacher, inclusion teacher, Special Education Campus Coordinator and administrator (approximately 300 per year).
3. Performs general secretarial tasks.
4. Prepares in advance all paperwork for scheduled ARD's.
5. Follows up to ensure meetings take place as scheduled by the deadline in which they are due.
6. Familiar with North East Independent School District's general policies.
7. Observes all channels of communication with the school as established by the principal.
8. Notifies the principal and campus coordinator of absence.
9. Attends all teacher/assistant in-service meetings as required.
10. Keeps track of records received from and transferred to other schools or central office.
11. Treats all information about children and families in strictest confidence.
12. Prepares office correspondence.
13. Receives phone calls from parents, teachers, counselors and administrators, takes reliable messages and assists with needs and answers questions as appropriate.
14. Maintains Special Education Student Folders.
15. Files correspondence as needed.
16. Prepares and maintains current student status reports to teachers.
17. Maintains student schedule files and performs other clerical duties as assigned by the campus coordinator.
18. Assists teachers with purchase orders.
19. Orders forms for meetings.
20. Assists with mentor program.
21. Assists with special education fund raisers to include counting money.
22. Balances the Student Activity Fund monthly.
23. Corrects Special Education Cumulative Teacher Rolls every six weeks.
24. Maintains confidentiality of information.
25. Reports to work on time every day.
26. Performs additional duties and accepts responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful completion of applicable skills testing through the Department of Human Resources
  • Proficient keyboarding skills
  • Effective organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
