Summary: Supports public relations activities for Missouri Botanical Garden through maintaining and monitoring social media channels and other engagement opportunities. Works closely with other Marketing and Communications Division staff to plan and implement effective communication methods designed to enhance Garden visitors' experiences at our live and virtual sites. Work with Marketing and Communications Division staff to create and maintain the Garden's public image as a premier cultural institution and a global leader in plant science, conservation, and sustainability. Maintains the Public Relation team’s content calendar and assists with or accomplishes other duties, as necessary.Responsibilities:
- Responsible for writing timely, original, and engaging digital content to support the Garden’s branding and communication strategies across our social media platforms, with the goal of increasing audience size and engagement.
- Guides content development and prioritizes where to invest the most efforts related to various channels and opportunities for the Garden.
- Monitors and engages with followers on social media and is proactive in identifying issues or concerns related to our followers.
- Keeps abreast of industry and social media trends and makes recommendations for improvements based on the latest trends.
- Maintains and monitors social media content for all Garden areas, in collaboration with Marketing and Communications Division leadership.
- Oversees influencer marketing strategy for the Garden, which may include:
- Regular communication and guidance to identified team of social media influencers that will market the Garden’s events, general visitation, and share stories about the Garden’s mission.
- Identify and develop new influencer relationships that fit into the Garden’s brand.
- balance between attendance-driven posts and mission content.
- Provide talking points, photos, and videos to influencers for promotional posts.
- Organize and oversee influencer events.
- Organize individual influencer visits
- Connects with local community networks through neighborhood associations and other groups.
- Assists fellow Public Relations team members with other duties, as necessary.
- Serves as backup on media shoots when necessary.
- Meets expected attendance guidelines.
- Follows and adheres to established policies and procedures, including but not limited to Employee Handbook, Garden Safety Guidelines and Department Policies.
- Behaves and communicates in a manner that promotes and fosters a culture of teamwork, cooperation, and respect within our division and throughout the Garden with all employees, supervisors/managers, volunteers, visitors and others
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Minimum one to three (1-3) years of experience in digital communication with a focus on content development required. Strong working knowledge of relevant social media tools is essential.
- Ability to respond quickly and meet established deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; exceptional ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Experience selecting photos and proficiency creating and editing video for multiple social media platforms.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Independent self-starter, creative, flexible, and possesses the ability to effectively multi-task.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal team members and external partners to create and share content and messaging that promotes the Garden’s brand.
- Comfortable with public speaking.
- Photography and video skills preferred but not required.
- Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required.

- Bachelor's degree in PR, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or other related field preferred
- An equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience may be considered.
Mathematical Skills: Proficient college math aptitude: ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite; including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Picture Manager.
- Knowledge of Vocus marketing and PR software a plus.
- Solid Internet research skills.
- Operational knowledge of social media platforms.
- Familiarity with uploading content to a variety of content management systems a plus. Basic familiarity with HTML coding a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to utilize computer keyboard (typing).
- Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds.
- Ability to push/pull supply cart.
- May be required to perform tasks at varying heights (i.e., climb step stools, short ladders, etc.)
- Frequent standing, reaching and bending - 50% to 100% of the workday, at times, may be spent standing on feet.
- Principally operates standard office equipment to include computers, copiers, files, fax machines.
- Standard business casual attire required.
- Ability to work outdoors in temperatures over 100°F as well as in inclement weather conditions as needed.
- Frequent off-site meetings will be required.
- Must have access to transportation to escort off-site media interviews.
