Position Summary:

Reporting to the Fixed Assets Operations Manager, the Senior Accountant will be a key member of the EG America Finance team responsible for all accounting activities related to Fixed Assets. In addition, this role will work closely with all company business units including but not limited to Real Estate, General Ledger, Construction, Facilities, Marketing/Advertising, Petroleum Operations, Environmental, Information Technologies and Culinary. EG America is a convenience store operator with nearly 1,700 company-owned and operated locations across the United States. EG America’s store support center is located in Westborough, MA.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the overall business operates in alignment with the corporate capital policy.
  • Monitor monthly capital spend versus approved capital budget minimizing the risk of exceeding approved spending thresholds.
  • Make certain fixed asset transactions are processed in compliance with IFRS accounting principles and Company policy.
  • Assist in documenting and ensuring appropriate controls are in place throughout areas of accounting responsibilities.
  • Assist the Fixed Asset accountants to ensure the team remains on schedule to meet all timelines.
  • Provide guidance and support to Staff Accountants.
  • Assist the Fixed Assets Operations Manager in reviewing work prepared by Staff Accountants.
  • Provide monthly reporting related to capital expenditures and asset balance roll forwards.
  • Work with the Financial Reporting and General Ledger teams to accurately account for impairment adjustments to the existing asset base.
  • Assist the IT group to align / maintain their technology inventory with the fixed asset database.
  • Prepare and approve monthly journal entries / direct uploads to Oracle GL and fixed assets Fusion module.
  • Solicit information from various departments to prepare /reclass journal entries which move internal open project payroll to capital.
  • Work with business teams to ensure construction in process (“CIP”) remains current and accurate.
  • Communicate effectively with all business groups to ensure retirements / transfers are recorded timely within the proper accounting periods.
  • Attend quarterly cross functional meetings to identify / discuss accounting implications.
  • Analyze and reconcile certain balance sheet / P&L accounts monthly.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Assist with ad-hoc requests both internally and externally including quality checks and clean-up projects.
  • Assist with audit requests.
  • Analyze fixed asset details for data integrity.


Working Relationships:
Interact with the entire Finance organization on a routine basis and various business unit partners throughout the company. Assist with corporate acquisitions / divestures.


Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Accounting or MBA

Minimum Experience: 3-4 years of accounting experience

Preferred Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience working in fixed assets
  • 1-2 years of industry experience with retail and/or real estate exposure.
  • Experience working in a mid to large size organization

  • Technical accounting abilities
  • Effective Communication (verbal and oral) in order to clearly communicate and present unusual and/or complex concepts or issues in a convincing manner across all levels of management
  • Passion for detail and meeting deadlines
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot between competing priorities
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel
  • Experience with Oracle EBS or Oracle Fusion a plus
  • Strong organizational skills to include effective time management in all key responsibilities of the job


Other:

Hours & Conditions: 40-50 hour work week in a corporate environment. Currently partially remote – work from home 2-3 days per week
