Job description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This position installs, maintains and supports Microsoft SQL Architecture based servers. Will assist in the effort to move existing Oracle Architecture Planforms to Microsoft SQL Architecture Platforms. Installs and maintains Internet Information Services Platforms and assist with Application Developers deployment of Internet Information Serveries Dependent Applications. Performs complex and advanced work on various computer platforms to ensure integrity and reliability of database software and related data. The position supports various levels of IS staff and provides direction on database design.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Tasks
- Coordinate changes to computer database; test and implement the database, applying knowledge of database management systems.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases.
- Writes logical and physical database descriptions including location, space, access method and security.
- Codes and directs others in coding descriptions.
- Reviews project requests describing database user needs estimating time and cost required to accomplish projects. Able to function in a lead capacity for software upgrades.
- Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to database management system.
- Reviews workflow charts developed by programmer/analyst to understand tasks computer will perform.
- Specifies user and user access levels for each segment of database.
- Identifies objects, actions, and events; estimates needed characteristics.
- Evaluates information against standards.
- Analyzes data or information.
- Makes decisions and solves problems, thinks creatively, implements ideas, and programs.
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of computer architecture and advanced data processing techniques and procedures including security standards and techniques.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP communications protocols and standards.
- Knowledge of relational data base architecture.
- Considerable knowledge of OS concepts.
- Knowledge of email filtering software, internet monitoring software, Send mail, and External DNS
- Demonstrate good follow-through and personal time management.
- Ability to communicate at the right level of detail in working with people at various data processing experience levels.
- Demonstrate effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain good intradepartmental and interdepartmental working relationships. Ability to do conceptual and detail planning to meet time objectives and to establish effective work schedules.

Minimum Education and Experience
Four-year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field with at least 5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Architecture Platforms; OR a two-year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field with at least 7 years experience with Microsoft SQL Architecture Platforms.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment primarily involving sitting, standing, bending, walking, and operating personal computers and equipment. There is little or no exposure to hazardous environmental conditions.
May Require Driving
This position may require driving for this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business such as but not limited to attending conferences, meetings, or any other county related functions. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
