The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers supporting federal decision making – two serving the Department of Defense and one serving the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President of the United States. The Institute of Defense Analyses (IDA) has an immediate career opening for a Sr. Security Guard. The scheduled shift for this position is Monday - Friday (6:00 am - 2:00 pm).

What will you do in this role?
The IDA Security Officers are responsible for the physical security at the Center for Computing Sciences in Bowie, MD. This position is a physical security role in which security guards are required to observe and report as they patrol the premises and monitor CCTV feeds. Through instruction and on-the-job training, you will become familiar with all normal and emergency IDA Security Officer Procedures, each duty post assignment, and the physical layout of the facility.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Reference - Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with the Standard Practice and Procedures for SCI Manual and the CCS Security Force Manual of Policies and Procedures.
2. Personnel Movement:
a. Regulates personnel entry into building and adjacent areas. Deals with visitors, and staff professionally and with courtesy.
b. Checks personnel identification badges. Ensures visitors are authorized for entry into facility and confirms identification.
c. Maintains log of visitors and operates the special personnel accountability system.
3. Specific Duties
a. Understands special instructions/orders at the various posts within and outside of the facility. Remains at post until relieved or re-directed by supervisor.
b. Patrols assigned area, being alert to violations of security regulations, unauthorized persons and safety hazards. Verifies safety features such as locks, alarms and lights are functioning and operational.
c. Responds to alarms, meeting time and physical requirements. Takes prompt action to correct violations, creates complete, accurate and factual incident reports.
d. Deals with individuals involved in unusual/suspicious situations firmly but courteously, works toward resolution of problem involving management when necessary.
e. Understands use of video monitors, carefully watching for any unusual activity on the grounds or vicinity.
f. Knows the process of activation/deactivation of the alarm systems (SMTs) and monitoring UL alarm control station.
g. Implements emergency procedures as situations dictate or as directed.
h. Secures classified packages after office hours.
i. Secures alarm access and classified combinations to secure areas.
4. Escorts
a. Knows building, office and grounds layout for most direct route to destination.
b. Performs escort duty upon direction of Superiors. Stays alert to actions and activities of person(s) under escort. Reports unusual behavior.
5. Conducts shredding of classified and sensitive information as required.
6. Keeps informed and current with regulations and new procedures concerning the Security Force operations.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
What will you need?
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Active Secret Security Clearance or above is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Specialized training in security or investigation is a plus. Two or more years of related experience in security.

Physically able to respond to alarms and emergencies in accordance with time and physical regulations developed by NSA/CCS on SCI Facilities without using mechanical devices as aids. Requirements may include:
- Ability to use computer technology with proficiency to include: Microsoft office products, security badge creation software, and other security databases and programs.
- Great customer service attitude, ability to effectively communicate and follow instructions.
- Willingness and availability to work other shifts or overtime as needed to support 24/7 operations.
- Successful completion of criminal background is required.
