Job Summary
The Dean of Students Office (DOS) works with faculty and other Harvard Law School (HLS) administrative offices to orient 1,800 students to law school life and to provide resources and counseling on a variety of matters that may arise in both students’ academic and personal lives.
The Staff Assistant is a key role helping to support the office and serve our students within a high-volume, service-oriented front-office setting.
Position Description
As a Staff Assistant, you will:
Triage a range of in-person, electronic, and telephone inquiries from students, faculty, administrators, and others
Manage the department email inbox
Assist with planning, coordination, and staffing of DOS events
Provide support to the DOS staff on matters related to student support such as exam support and wellness programming
Maintain office operations and organization, monitor inventory, and order supplies
Coordinate and contribute to a range of special projects in the office, such as the student life social media plan
Act as backup to the class recordings team; when necessary, coordinate class recording requests for students who have personal or medical emergencies
Identify areas for process improvement with an eye toward efficiency, adherence to applicable rules and policies, and the use of technology and automation
Basic Qualifications
3 or more years of experience in office administration or related field (business environment and/or customer service). Education beyond high school may count toward experience.

Experience and demonstrated ability handling confidential information with discretion
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team, in a fast-paced, high-volume, dynamic environment
Technologically proficient in MS Office, specifically Excel, and with collaboration tools such as MS Teams and SharePoint
Working Conditions
This position is full time (9am – 5pm) based on campus in Cambridge, MA
Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends
Additional Information
This is a term appointment currently expected to extend through 5/31/23, with potential for renewal subject to funding and departmental need.
