STAFF ATTORNEY - LOW INCOME TAXPAYER CLINIC DIRECTOR

Legal Aid seeks a full-time Low Income Taxpayer Clinic project director/staff attorney to provide legal representation and advocacy services to low-income taxpayers in income tax disputes, primarily with the Internal Revenue Service, Missouri Department of Revenue and City of Kansas City. The attorney in this position will represent clients in administrative, judicial, and legislative forums, as needed. Case topics include, but are not limited to, collections, audits, identity theft, employee classifications, innocent spouse claim, and injured spouse claims. The attorney will also act as a point of contact with our community partners for outreach and education events, accept primary responsibility for all grant-related communications and reports, and perform other duties as assigned. This is a full-time position housed in our Consumer Protection Unit at Legal Aid’s Central Office in Kansas City, Missouri, but the attorney will provide services throughout our 40-county service area. Some local travel and light out-of-town travel will be required, including a three-day annual conference typically held in early December.

The qualified candidate must have the following: a Missouri law license; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high quality legal assistance to low income clients. Experience in tax law is preferred, but not required.
Salary: $60,000 - $85,000 DOE
