The Division of Student Health and Well-being (SHWB) of the Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Staff Psychologist to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on student support and development. Reporting to the Associate Director of Training at the Homewood location of the SHWB mental health service, the Embedded Counselor will focus on providing supportive services for graduate students at the Johns Hopkins School of Education (SOE). This staff member will provide direct and indirect clinical services, psychoeducational programming, outreach, and consultation primarily on-site at the School of Education.

The successful candidate will consult and work collaboratively with colleagues to develop programs designed to serve students in the range of programs at SOE, and to reduce barriers to accessing counseling services. The Embedded Counselor will abide by the limits of confidentiality that apply to all SHWB clinical staff, and will participate in individual and group supervision and regular staff meetings at the Homewood counseling center, as well as participate in the after-hours on-call rotation that serves as back-up to ProtoCall. To best meet the needs of the SOE population, this position will occasionally be expected to work outside of the CC hours of operation.

The Johns Hopkins University Student Health & Well-Being practice group supports well-being, primary care and mental health services for JHU students and learners across all nine schools within the University. The School of Education is one of the nine divisions that comprise the Johns Hopkins University. Located near the Homewood campus, the mission of Johns Hopkins School of Education is to generate knowledge to inform policy and practice and educate society to address the most important challenges faced by individuals, schools, and communities. Approximately 2,500 students are enrolled in a range of programs including mental health counseling and master's and doctoral programs in education with a variety of specializations and concentrations. The Embedded Counselor will be based primarily on the School of Education campus, and will work closely with their supervisor and peer practice group at the Counseling Center on the Homewood campus. It is anticipated that the person in this position will provide some services at other campus location in Baltimore and Washington, DC. Flexible hours are required at key times in the academic year including evenings and weekends.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Provide multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including initial consultations, intake assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, relationship counseling, and crisis intervention for students enrolled at the School of Education. These services will be primarily be provided at the SOE located near the Homewood campus.

Create and offer psychoeducational workshops, outreach, and consultation services.

Develop opportunities for less formal interactions with SOE students to reduce barriers to counseling. This includes offering informal drop-in hours, consultations, and participating in other campus events.

Consult with SOE staff and faculty to proactively address the unique needs of graduate students and reduce barriers to counseling.

Consult with the SOE Student Affairs team and collaborate with colleagues across campus to implement best practices and supportive services for SOE students.

Work to remain current regarding the unique needs of graduate students and research supported strategies and interventions for this population.

Attend all relevant Counseling Center meetings, including ongoing supervision and professional development programming on-site at the CC.

Provides afterhours (as backup to ProtoCall) on-call shifts, in rotation with the rest of the clinical staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
Licensure or licensure eligible in State of Maryland as a psychologist is a requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work with a wide range of college student presenting concerns in individual and group counseling.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups.
Ability to effectively engage audiences during presentations.
Commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations.
Commitment to one's own ongoing development of multicultural competence as a professional.
Dual-language proficiency to conduct consultation and counseling is valued but not required; Mandarin preferred.
