  • Essential Job Accountabilities:


      Job Summary:
        The Staffing and Bed Control Specialist complete the shift staffing balance of the hospital. They assign staff to the appropriate departments in order to ensure the staffing levels are appropriate for patient demand. They call staff for extra shifts if needed, and cancel staff if not needed. They are responsible for registering and assigning beds for both DNH and NNH campuses. They work closely with directors, administrative coordinators, unit team leaders, and administration for the timely placement of patients in their rooms. They ensure the census on each floor is maintained at the appropriate levels. They also support the departments and organization’s goals and mission.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
        • Monitor balance of staff schedules.
        • Assign hospital staff according to identified needs.
        • Assists and coordinates all aspects of daily staffing accurately and professionally.
        • Processes information into staff scheduling system accurately. Able to generate all reports upon request.
        • Demonstrates teamwork and assists with daily data entry.
        • Demonstrates and fosters loyalty and commitment to the department and to the NCH Healthcare System.
        • Understands and is proficient with the Clairvia System.
        • Knows and follows hospital and staffing policy & procedures.
        • Understands staffing and makes adjustments to hospital staffing as directed.
        • Communicates with staff to balance schedules.
        • Ensures that all patients requiring a patient safety tech are assigned a caregiver and makes adjustments throughout the day as needed.
        • Ensures patient safety tech log is updated and accurate.
        • Audits Registry compliance and contacts team member if not in compliance.
        • Understands the staffing COH policy and procedure to be able to COH Hospital staff, Registry staff, Agency staff, and Traveling staff in the correct order.
        • Works directly with nurse managers, administrative coordinators, and CNO to develop and implement daily staffing plans.
        • Receives all sick calls for the organization and documents them accurately in log.
        • Communicates with staff members throughout the organization to obtain appropriate staffing levels according to current demand.
        • Understands each unit's staffing grids in order to determine the appropriate staffing levels.
        • Responsible for all bed control activities.
        • Understands and is proficient with applicable portions of the Teletracking, First Net, and Access Management systems.
        • Communicates admission policies and procedure and controls patient flow.
        • Demonstrates the ability to listen to and ensure a prompt response to patient and family needs.
        • Demonstrates effective professional communication and excellent customer service skills based on positive attitudes and values.
        • Processes ER admissions, direct admissions, and transfers.
        • Understands patient needs and makes appropriate bed placements accordingly.
        • Understands bed flow process and places patients in a manner that maintains efficient flow.
        • Understands the unique needs of each department and procedural area in order to prioritize patient bed placement accordingly.
        • Communicates and coordinates effectively and professionally with managers, directors, executives, other healthcare facilities, transfer centers, patients, and physicians.
        • Coordinates appropriate bed flow with staffing, nurse managers, and CNO in order to ensure each floor is at the appropriate census.

      Education, Experience, Qualifications:
        • Minimum of High School or GED required.
        • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a customer service or clerical role preferred.
