The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toro Auxiliary Partners was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of the University to provide services and develop and enhance programs that are an integral part of the University's educational mission. About the Position

The STEM Instructional Specialist will work directly with and under the supervision of the Director of STEM Education and Teacher Development. The STEM Instructional Specialist is responsible for leading instruction off-campus for STEAM Weeks and Lab Schools; train teachers, students, and community members in the use of fabrication technology and incorporate the use of technology into STEAM curriculum (New staff will be trained in the use of Fabrication Technology).

The Instructional Specialist will, via coaching, provide resources, lesson planning, demonstration lessons, professional development, mentoring guidance, and feedback, to support the instructional duties of pre-service and in-service teachers enrolled in any of the programs managed by the CISE team.

Position Information

Employment at Toro Auxiliary Partners is on an at-will basis and can be terminated by either an employee or Toro Auxiliary Partners at any time with or without cause or advanced notice. Permanent status can neither be obtained nor granted. This position is full-time, salary-exempt, benefited, plus employer-sponsored health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, and sick/vacation pay.

Salary Range

$62,400-$65,000 (annually) plus benefits

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understanding and knowledge of NGSS and CCSS at an expert level for the purpose of leading professional development, supporting teachers and developing STEM curriculum.
  • English Expert will assist in creating and reviewing reports. Excellent written communication skills are required.
  • Facilitate, lead and develop curricula that support the Teacher Support Institute (TSI).
  • Schedule regular school site visits and coaching sessions with CISE classroom teachers.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback following focused observations.
  • Assist and consult with classroom teachers in diagnosing classroom difficulties.
  • Suggest resources needed to ensure conceptual understanding in CCSS and NGSS based lessons.
  • Conduct and model teaching and learning strategies.
  • Provide co-teaching and/or demo lessons that foster conceptual understanding and rigorous instruction.
  • Support teachers with pacing instructional units, planning appropriate intervention support, and implementing appropriate accommodation strategies.
  • Develop and deliver STEM Curriculum for various instructional projects, such as STEM Lab Schools, STEAM Weeks, and STEAM Days.
  • Design, develop and lead professional development applicable and appropriate for CISE staff, pre-service teachers, and in-service teachers on effective instructional strategies and developments in STEM education.
  • Collaborate with CISE coordinators, CISE teachers, and school site administrative teams to provide the best instructional environment for teaching, learning, and student success.
  • Collaborate with CISE coordinators, faculty, and staff, to plan, develop and design activities that promote STEM in the education field.
  • Support the CISE STEM Lab Schools.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience

Required:
  • Clear teaching credential (Multiple Subject or ELA) with a minimum of 4 years successful teaching experience
  • Ability to travel to school sites throughout CISE's service area.
  • Experience supporting adult learners in a lead, coaching, mentoring, or out- of-classroom teaching position.
  • Evidence of success with working with (or in) traditionally under-performing, high-poverty, urban schools.
  • In-depth knowledge of implementing engaging, innovative STEAM-based lessons.
  • In-depth knowledge of differentiating classroom instructional practices that promote student achievement.
  • Experience utilizing Google Suites for Education.
  • Well-versed in effective classroom management strategies, redirecting negative behavior strategies, pedagogical learning strategies, as well as, teaching and learning theories.
  • Ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds (academically, economically, and culturally) with varying skills.
  • Experience with integrating technology and 21st-century learning skills into K- 12 instruction/curriculum.
  • Knowledge of understanding the needs of specialized populations (EL, SEL, Gifted, disabled, SpED, high-poverty, at-risk) in traditionally under-served communities.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred:
  • Teaching and coaching experience in a high-need school district.
Education

Required: Master's degree or currently enrolled in a master's degree program
