The City of Lenexa is actively hiring for Street and Stormwater Maintenance Workers to come join the Public Works team. We have full-time opportunities available in our Stormwater and Street Maintenance divisions. The City of Lenexa ‘s Public Works Department is a nationally accredited agency by the American Public Works Association. The ideal candidate will:

Any work outside of the normal hours is typically known well in advance for things such as our festivals and events. While there is less notice for snow events, information regarding schedules and expectations are shared as early as possible as snow and ice enter the forecast.
The Maintenance worker positions are entry level positions that are responsible for maintaining the infrastructure in Lenexa, KS. We will provide you with on-the-job training and help you earn your CDL. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow through the maintenance worker career track levels I, II, and III.
The mission of the Lenexa Public Works Department is to provide the community with outstanding public service by maintaining the city’s infrastructure and facilities with integrity and innovation.
The Stormwater Crew was established as part of our Rain to Recreation initiative to protect Lenexa’s water quality and natural habitats. They are responsible for implementing the city’s watershed management practices and providing education to residents about how to reduce the amount of contaminants that run into our public waterways. Stormwater is responsible for maintaining native vegetation, erosion control structures, water conveyance systems including underground piping, open channels (natural & improved), detention and retention ponds, and system inspection and verification of storm drainage infrastructure. Specific activities may include clearing debris from storm drains and structures, creek wall stabilization, and the replacement of aging storm pipe. Crews also maintain a growing list of city-owned BMPs, which could be anything from rain gardens and constructed wetlands, to manmade storm box filters.
The Street Crew maintains Lenexa’s street network of approximately 820 lane miles of roads and 36.78 miles of hiking/biking trails. Maintenance of the streets and trails includes sidewalk repairs, street sweeping, pothole patching, broken curb repair, mill and overlay, and micro/slurry sealing. The Streets Division is also responsible for the Pavement Management Program, Snow and ice removal, Dumpster Days and emergency response during natural disasters. The Streets crews contribute to maintaining the high standards set for the appearance of the City of Lenexa – many times seeing the immediate results of their hard work!
Salary/Compensation and Benefits
Maintenance Worker: Salary $16.51 to $20.18 per hour
- Additional $2.00 per hour on top of the base hourly rate of pay during the winter months
- Defined career growth every 2 years to reach a level III by 4 years of employment
- Clothing allowance (jeans, shirts, jackets) - $400 annually
- Boot allowance - $170 annually

Qualifications/Education
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Licenses: Must have a valid driver’s license
- Education: High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required
- No experience required; we will train you!
- Obtain a Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within six months of hire (training and assistance provided to help you obtain your CDL)
