Overview:
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position will be located at our Pasadena California office.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform preliminary and detailed level of structural analyses on spacecraft components and structures in static, random vibration and thermal environments under launch, operating and non-operating conditions with the ability to understand and incorporate applicable mechanical (thermal, materials, etc.) and system level requirements/parameters.
  • Create finite element models and perform linear and nonlinear static FEA using loads obtained from the engineering team, test data or hand calculations.
  • Provide input and static and dynamics engineering knowledge to projects and interface with customers.
  • Collaborate with other structural engineers and team members to verify compliance with requirements and customer expectations.
  • Write technical reports or other documentation for use by engineering staff, management, or customers.
  • Present resultant stress/dynamics analysis data and propose recommendations to customer.
  • Support multiple projects in parallel and have the flexibility to change priorities as needed.
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with 5-7 years related experience.
  • Experience and knowledge in structural analyses techniques including classical hand analyses and computer analysis tools.
  • Experience evaluating structural failure mechanisms including material failure in metals and composites, instability of structural elements, and fatigue and fracture mechanics.
  • Experience and knowledge of structural dynamics and static equivalent loading as well as random vibration, acoustic and rigid body dynamic simulations.
  • Knowledge of verification requirements for structural analyses.
  • Working knowledge of FEM analysis codes such as FEMAP and NASTRAN
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good communication (oral, written, presentation), interpersonal, negotiation and organizational skills.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience providing test support (vibration, acoustic, modal, shock) to space flight projects.
  • Knowledgeable of force limited vibration specification and test methodologies.
