Overview:
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position will be located at Sierra Lobo Inc in Milan, OH, but could be a remote position for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

Apply your creativity, analytical engineering ability, knowledge of design principles and practices, and professional experience as Structural/Civil Engineer to support our internal and external customers in achieving their goals. Develop and implement both conceptual and detailed solutions to a wide range of technical needs in a project-based work environment. Take a self-sufficient and hands-on approach to mature designs from concept through successfully-delivered hardware. Interface with multiple levels of government and commercial customer organizations during the typical project lifecycle.


  • Design, analyze, develop, prototype, refine, integrate, test and deliver an every-changing spectrum of specialized component to integrated systems within the Aerospace and Defense industry.
  • Perform structural calculations, analyses, and design engineering to support a wide array of structural/civil tasks. Example project tasks include:
    • Pipe supports, pipe anchors, pipe bridging structures, support towers
    • Concrete equipment pads, tanker unloading stations, bollards, drainage, and enclosure/building structures
    • Launch vehicle structures, spacecraft payload structures, and structural ground support equipment
  • Support business development activities. Responsibilities include development and documentation of proposed technical solutions, cost estimation, and schedule development. In addition to technical proficiency, excellent oral and written technical communications skills are required. Approximately 5% travel within the continental US may be required.
  • Use established SLI Systems Engineering processes in support of project management and technical execution. Identify opportunities to refine, tailor and improve these process, and implement such changes once affirmed.
  • Maintain and increase your knowledge and skills in work-related subject areas though experience gained on-the-job as well as in formal training settings.
  • Provide technical oversight and support to staff/contractors performing fabrication, construction, installation, checkout, and troubleshooting activities. Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports. Assist in constructability reviews. Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues
  • Create and revise structural/civil schematics, drawings, technical procedures, and quality control documentation associated to support project and SLI requirements.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions and construction specifications. Evaluate vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations for procurement.
  • Participate in as reviewer and presenter during design reviews, program reviews, technical discussions with client/suppliers/authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate engineers and designers.
  • Manage specifically assigned project activities.

Qualifications:


  • The successful applicant will possess a BS or higher degree (granted by an ABET-accredited university) in Civil/Structural Engineering or a sufficiently-relevant Engineering discipline and have five (5) or more years of verifyable, related work experience. Co-operative education or internship experience may be credited towards this requirement if it is sufficiently relevant. A PE license in Civil/Structural or related Engineering Registration is highly desired.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of field-specific software tools and interpretation is required. Potential examples include Finite Element Analysis modeling tools, such as COMSOL or Femap/Nastran , and Solidworks.
  • Experience in MS Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Familiarity with ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction), and state building codes.
  • An interest in the aerospace flight industry is mandatory, however prior professional experience within it is not. A willingness to maintain and increase existing skills is required.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to qualify (and maintain qualification) for a government-issued security clearance
