This is a student position responsible for performing field data collection and other duties necessary for building geodatabases. Some job functions may require the use of varying levels of physical exertion. Works under supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiatives and independent judgment.

Approximately 15 hours per week; may exceed 20 hours per week in Summer, (21 -40 hours/week),

Job Duties

Essential Duties:
1. Assists in the capture and collection of field data.
2. Cooperates in the handling and processing of data, as necessary.
3. Assists in the development and completion of surveys, reports, geospatial analysis, etc.
4. May perform work in varying environmental conditions, including summer heat, winter cold, wind, rain, and humidity.
5. May handle, process and dispense sensitive information of a confidential/proprietary nature.
6. Assists with special projects as assigned.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Knowledge of data collection principles and geography concepts.
2. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
3. Ability to understand and follow directions.
4. Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
5. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required.

1. Knowledge of data collection principles and geography concepts.
2. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
3. Ability to understand ad follow directions.
4. Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
5. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Geography course work preferred.

Some job functions may require the use of varying levels of physical exertion. Work may be performed in varying environmental conditions including summer heat, winter cold, wind, rain and humidity. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties is required.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
