Job Summary

This job posting is for the position of Online Content Developer in the Purdue On-Campus Writing Lab (OWL). Online Content Developers collaborate to pitch, research, develop, revise, and edit material for the OWL website, a resource on writing that receives hundreds of millions of pageviews internationally every year. Content developers must be willing to conduct background research and develop material that addresses a variety of audiences and potential modalities. We are seeking applicants who represent the academic and cultural diversity of campus (we do not give preference to one academic major or interest over others). We hope for the OWL to represent the campus community and all its disciplines and expertise.

They will have opportunities to leverage scholarship and best practices to develop content that reaches a wide range of students and instructors in a variety of institutional contexts as well as business and government throughout the US and the world. Student Content Developers will leverage their own knowledge of writing across disciplines and communities and produce material that draws on their creative and collaborative experiences around writing and mentoring writers. Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Attending team meetings, virtual or in-person, to establish and discuss goals for each semester

  • Participating in occasional check-ins with the Assistant Director of Content Development

  • Working collaboratively with the Assistant Director and other Content Developers to design new content that will benefit from multiple insights and skill sets

  • Setting time aside to work on your own on individual projects or tasks

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate enrollment at Purdue is required to apply.

  • Applicants should be able to work well in collaborative settings and on their own. Interests in writing, web design, usability, and accessible document design are preferred.

To apply, please provide:

  • A short letter or email (to writing.lab@purdue.edu) of interest that details motivation to develop content for a variety of writers through the OWL website and YouTube channel and that shares relevant educational/background information.
