Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is seeking a Student Services Coordinator to coordinate the operations and activities at the Southern Virginia Education Center (SVEC) associated with Enrollment Management and Student Success functions in order to assist students with college onboarding, academic success, educational planning, community resources, and wraparound support.

This position serves as the primary SVCC contact at the Southern Virginia Education Center in Emporia, VA. Duties include ensuring daily operation of the Center and management of designated EMSS staff. The position maintains a direct working relationship with key internal and external stakeholders and provides direct, student-centered services in the areas of admissions, outreach, recruitment, enrollment, financial aid, and advising.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Daily Center Operations – Coordinate daily facility management activities to ensure effective implementation of SVCC classes, programs and services; Serve as a reliable point of contact at the Center to ensure that internal and external constituents are properly advised and aware of SVEC programs, services and events; Serve as the SVEC central point of contact for emergency management communications, functions, and activities
  • Outreach and Student Support – Partner with the Student Experience Coordinator to design, implement and lead highly visible, year-round student recruitment functions and engagement activities at the SVEC; Represent SVCC at community events and programs as appropriate, with a focus on activities in the Center’s service area; Design and implement ongoing SVEC internal marketing initiatives that promote and increase utilization of advising, tutoring, Single Stop/SNAP 50-50, and other support services; Proactively use NAVIGATE, the CRM and other technology tools to encourage and facilitate enrollment-driven, systemized student communication/follow-up activities; Partner with college stakeholders to coordinate and implement Panther Prep Advising Week and other college-wide initiatives for currently enrolled students each semester to increase semester-to-semester persistence and annual retention rates; Initiate and maintain partnerships with various SVCC service departments and stay current with all policies and procedures for the purpose of addressing time-sensitive student requests; Provide direct guidance to prospective and enrolled students to include student onboarding, advising, career development, and retention services
  • Program Management & Evaluation – Manage part-time and full-time Enrollment Management & Student Success staff as appropriate; Lead Center-specific strategic projects with the approval of the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Success; Engage in strategic planning and budgeting activities; manage budgets appropriately within college and state guidelines; Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of SVEC programs and activities; use assessment results to continuously improve systems and student experiences at the SVEC

SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically and age-diverse individuals
  • Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students
  • Knowledge of admissions requirements, registration and enrollment processes, financial aid opportunities and applicable federal guidelines, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA
  • Ability to effectively solve problems and proactively deal with emergency situations as they arise
  • Knowledge of barriers to educational success and a desire to help others reach their educationalgoals
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively follow-up and follow-through
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain appropriate legal compliance in the areas of budget development and monitoring, confidentiality, records management, and financial reporting
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical conduct and professionalism
  • Ability to respond meaningfully to the needs of individuals with respect, sensitivity, and civility
  • Ability to give instructions to others; arrive at decisions, develop conclusions and solutions

  • Recent, professional experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Google Docs, PeopleSoft, CRM/ERP and retention-based software

Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher education work experience in areas of student advising, recruitment, counseling, academic support, or other related academic support roles
  • Experience in using CRM/ERP and/or Retention Software, PeopleSoft, Navigate and/or other technologies
