JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Student Success Teacher File 315
Reports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor
Job Objective:
Provides daily learning experiences to help students be successful while navigating the transition to, and success in, high school. Provides strategies to successfully navigate the school/life balance. Provide students a single point of contact for most freshmen and other targeted students. Serves as part of the Student Success Unit with other identified colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Holds and maintains required state teacher credential in mathematics, science, English, social studies, intervention
specialist school counseling OR school social worker credential preferred.
2. Mathematics or science classroom experience preferred.
3. Three (3) years of work experience at the ninth-grade and/or tenth-grade levels in core content areas within the last
three (3) years.
4. Has experience in program development and management.
5. Has experience in teacher leadership that encompasses liaising between teachers, counselors, and administrators.
6. Able to effectively manage large groups of students (up to approximately 360 weekly) to
ensure student safety and effective classroom management.
7. Knowledge, experience, and execution of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) framework at the high school level.
8. Knowledge, experience, and execution of positive behavior intervention and support
(PBIS) framework at the high school level.
9. Effective communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
10. Embodies high ethical standards/integrity.
11. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.
12. Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings and, in accordance with his/her legal responsibility, help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains a thorough understanding of subject matter, skills, and pedagogy related to success in the ninth-grade year. Organizes content and learning goals that support high levels of student achievement.
- Prepares instructional materials.
- Teaches assigned students and subject matters as scheduled.
- Develops and implements lesson plans aligned to support success in the ninth-grade year.
- Evaluates student academic needs, learning styles, and provides feedback to students on these areas.
- Differentiates instructional techniques to effectively advance student learning.
- Facilitates the integration of new or improved technology in all areas of the curriculum.
- Utilizes formal and informal assessment strategies to monitor student progress.
- Uses a data-driven approach to analyze student needs.
- Provides effective feedback to students.
- Identifies alternative approaches/accommodations as needed (e.g., differentiated curricula,equipment adaptations, extended time, study guides, reading/transcribing assistance, etc.).
- Collaboratively resolves problems that impede student learning.
- Helps develop and implement evidence-based interventions that produce tangible benefits within defined time-frames.
- Advocates for all students.
- Understands what each student needs to be successful in the school environment.
- Able to individualize interactions for student’s social, emotional, and academic needs.
- Observes student demeanor.
- Investigates/reports atypical behavior.
- Helps students make appropriate choices and grow academically.
- Promotes creativity, critical thinking, cultural awareness, democratic values, empathy, ethical conduct, and self-reliance skills.
- Evaluates student achievement/performance.
- Prepares progress reports.
- Regularly communicates academic, behavioral, and social-emotional related matters to parents.
- Proctors state and district testing activities.
- Upholds mandated security procedures.
- Identifies alternative assessment methods when warranted.
- Ensures student lists and teaching materials are readily available for substitutes.
- Collaborates with administrators, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, resource officer, and other applicable agencies to obtain qualitative student data.
- Participates as a member of weekly MTSS meetings and quarterly Ready High School
Network meetings, as well as other meetings deemed appropriate to the skills, knowledge, and data of this course and/or
other meetings as necessary to support the academic success of the student.
- Facilitates a teacher-based team focused on ninth-grade courses and student support.
- Coordinates intervention programming with school counselors and administration.
- Liaises with school-based mental health.
- Collects and analyzes data and makes recommendations to high school administrators to improve the program.
- Comfortable making presentations to stakeholders related to data analysis and trends.
- Provides support for organization and regulation of executive functioning skills.
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings including the responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

Workday coincides with the teacher work hours at the high school.
