POSITION SUMMARY:
The General Manager of the South Texas Farm is responsible for management and oversight for all operational functions of the farming division. Works with other management and personnel to create and implement long and short-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. Provide supervision and leadership in all areas of farming operation. The general manager is also responsible for the overall planning, direction, support, and achievement of operational profitability.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Provide strategic input, leadership and expertise for decision making issues related to Farming Operations.
- Create and Manage Budget.
- Capital Expenditures.
- Planning & implementation of crop mix and varieties.
- Marketing of crops.
- Oversight of harvesting operation.
- Oversight of cotton ginning operation.
- Purchasing of inputs.
- Preparation and distribution of production and cost reports.
- Implementation of KRI policies.
- Supervisory and managerial functions as related to personnel.
- Contract execution and compliance oversight of Lessees.
- Compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as associated with division operations.
- Ensure a safe work environment compliant with regulatory agencies and company policies.
- Risk management functions associated with risk and liability of crop production.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
- Minimum of 10+ years experience in agriculture, especially farming and ginning operations.
- Proven supervisory experience with exceptional employee relation skills.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
- Ability to develop and implement short- and long-term plans.
- Proven managerial abilities.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of soil types, crops, and weather patterns for geographical area.
- Knowledge of accounting and marketing practices and applications.
- Ability to work with various government and producer organizations as applicable and beneficial to farming operations.
- Ability to work with all members of Upper Management, South Texas Managerial Team, and other King Ranch Divisions to meet the overall goals and objectives of the organization.
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, the ability to be an approved driver for the company and to safely operate vehicles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS (Lifting, Bending, Stretching, etc.)
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position is located in South Texas.
- Work is performed outdoors in various field locations on ranch property.
- Requires exposure to all temperature and weather extremes (i.e., heat, rain, wind, cold and dusty conditions), moving equipment, loud noises, wetness, dust, fumes and requires walking on soft soil and hard and uneven surfaces.
